A fly-eatin' good time!!

Gex, the game that breathed life into a dying 3DO, has made the jump to the PlayStation. All of the nonstop, tail-flicking action, as well as the hilarious wise cracks make it to this version of the game. One of the first side-scrollers for the PlayStation, Gex shows that the PS does have 2-D power.
The graphics in this game are of an extremely high quality. Gex the gecko is a highly detailed, rendered sprite, and he moves along well detailed backgrounds that really set the mood of the level. His animation is done extremely well, right down to his tongue flicks. Overall, this game has excellent graphics.
The sounds set Gex's personality. Each wise crack makes you laugh out loud, and they really add to the overall fun of the game. However, the use of mildly strong language in a Kids to Adults game is one minor complaint. For example, Gex, after killing several enemies, sometimes yells, "Who opened the can of whoop-@$$?! He also yells, "I'm hungry, damn it!" Little kids shouldn't hear that...this game should have gotten a Teen rating, although I think those two lines were particularly funny. Still, it wouldn't do a 7-year old any good hearing teen language.
This game's originality lies in its wise cracks and the personality of Gex. The storyline is pretty ool, with the themes of the stages entertaining. (Has anyone spotted Raiden yet?). Overall, this game provides a new look at side scrollers.
The controls in this game do their job. However, there are some slight inaccuracies in jumping and tail-swinging, which sometimes cause an untimely death or three. However, since the number of lives is plentiful, there is no real problem.
This game is provides for a really good time. It's been a week and a half since I bought it, and I still haven't beat, but I think I'm close. Hopefull, it will last a bit longer, because I have games that can be beaten within a month of their purchase (or sometimes just three days). I'll keep playing and see how it goes, but so far, it's a winner.

And now for the grades...
