[Ridge Racer Codes]
Ridge Racer Codes

The PlayStation Classic!!

Ridge Racer, the breakthrough game for the PlayStation, is also its best driving game. A new peripheral, the Mad Catz steering wheel, greatly improves its gameplay and is a blast to use. Arcade perfect, this game is the racer to beat.
The graphics in Ridge Racer are very good. Nicely detailed cars and track accompany the action. A lot of popup hinders gameplay, though, especially when crashing into walls or making sharp turns. The cars have a lot of variety in their colors, but there is only one track, which gets repetitive quickly.
The sound effects are nice, with good tire screeching and bump effects. The announcer's voice samples are very repetitive, but of high quality. The ability to select your own CD music is a definite plus, considering the rather bland tracks on the Ridge Racer CD.
While Ridge Racer isn't the most original game, it is arcade perfect, which is most important. Right now, with the steering wheel, it is the driving game to beat.
Slightly slippery controls hinder action using the control pad, but the analog steering wheel clears up most of the problems. Gameplay is boring on only one track, but you forget this, for some reason, when using the steering wheel.
While slightly boring and dull using the control pad, Ridge Racer is fast paced action with the steering wheel. An all around fun game, this one is nearly unbeatable using the wheel.

And now for the grades...
