Street Fighter:The Movie Codes
My vote for worst game of the year!!

When I first heard of this game, I was excited to see that a Street Fighter game was coming to the PlayStation. As soon as I viewed the awesome Full Motion Video introduction sequence, I was dazzled. I couldn't wait to
see the actual game. To my dismay, the graphics, sounds and controls were just awful. It sadly bore no resemblance to the Street Fighter we know and love.
The graphics in Street Fighter:The Movie are terrible. The player sprites are washed out with little color or liveliness. The animations (if you can call them that) are horribly choppy and lame looking. For example, Ken's roundhouse kick looks like his leg breaks every time he uses it. Even though they tried to copy the Mortal Kombat style of graphics, it came out very poorly. An attempt at a "bloody" move, Sawada's self-stab, doesn't even look bloody. The blood is of a very poor quality. Overall, this game offers no eye candy.
The sounds are not even up to Super NES quality. Pitiful yelps replace once powerful battle cries and death screams. In one word: terrible. That just about sums up the sounds.
Bad graphics and sounds can be compensated for with good controls. This game doesn't even try. Street Fighter moves do not work with digitized, 2-frame animations. The characters seem to jerk around the screen, most of
the time executing moves that you don't want (or not executing them, for that matter). This proves true for charge moves, which are almost impossible to execute. The super moves are lame, with absolutely no originality. The combos are nonexistant, with no-brain "chain" combos detracting from the action. Overall, performing moves is a royal pain.
There is no originality in this game. They digitized fighters from the equally bad movie Mortal Kombat style, sacrificing all aspects of gameplay, graphics, sounds, you name it. I can't say enough bad things about this one.
A game that hinders your ability to play it is not a fun one. This is the case with Street Fighter: The Movie. Overall, stay far, far away from this one if you're looking for an entertaining game.
And now for the grades...
- Graphics-11/20
- Sounds-2/5
- Originality/Innovation-2/5
- Play Control/Gameplay-18/40
- FunFactor-12/30
- Total Score-45/100
