Well you want to know more about the Loverock family name. I've been doing some searching into this topic for several years now ~ I admit that I'm only an amateur at this, so if you see any errors or omissions please e-mail me with your information. ~~ this is a work in progress please be patient~~
Name
The word Loverock was derived from the word laverock (which is beleived to be the original version of the name) which is a type of lark. Laverock is a word that originated from Scotland which lead me to beleive that the Loverock ancestors originated there, even though the family more recently came from England (my grandfather and his parents came from england).
Scotland
Since the name originated in Scotland it is reasonable to believe that the family line originated there. The most likely place of origin is from Caerlaverock, which is a castle near the city of Dumfries, Scotland. It is believed that the family name was either taken from the castle or the castle was named after the family(which came first the chicken or the egg?). I have of yet to find any evidence that links the family and the castle.
Castle
Caerlaverock was granted to the Maxwell family and has been owned by them sence, with the exception of the few times that it was held by the english. If the Loverock(Laverock) family has any connection to the castle it would be from some sort of connection with the Maxwell family.
Family lore or myth
this section is dedicated to stories passed down through the family, which is the information I started with when I started my research.
The reason given for the family leaving scotland is mostly lost but according to family lore it was becuase of two brothers who became very angry with each other over some arguement or fight. becuase the two couldn't get along they both moved away from their homes, one moved to England and the other to Ireland.
Not much is known about my family ancestry but it is believed in times long ago my ancestors where among the Scotish that hated the English and where in constant conflict with the English. There are rumors that my ancestors even had a habit of raiding England during times of peace.
My Family
My family came to Canada only a couple of generations ago, my grandfather was either born in england, on the way to Canada or just after my family arrived in Canada.
My Grandfather served in the Canadian navy during the very end of WWII and was able to witness the sinking of several enemy subs. My Grandfather held the rank of Chief Petty Officer first class and served most of his carrier in the engine rooms of various ships(although we are not sure of exactly what his job was), he even served on the HMCS Ontario for awhile.
It is known the my branch of the family tree is related to the families: Wood, Beere and Flynn. Although there is no evidence to support it that I know of, it is believed that my family is related to Errol Flynn and on my mothers side(Wood) we are distantly related to Dan Ackroyd.
