Nintendo 64
Where do I start with this one. I have so many mixed feelings on it, I'm confused. To start, it was over-hyped. The system is amazing and all, but it was thought to be video game perfection, which it is not. I still don't see why they never used CD's. It limits them so much. I guess they saw something we didn't. Ah well.
One thing we've heard so many times is how few games the system has. Well, that doesn't bother me. If a system has 100 games and everyone buys 2, what's the point of making the other 98? I am strongly in favor of quality over quantity. But does the N64 do that great in the quality department? Yes and No. Every game had both, a large amount of time and effort put into them. But what kind of games are they? Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and Super Mario 64 are the only non-sport or non-fighting games, and surprisingly enough, the most successful games for the system. But fear not, good games are coming (I'm dying for Zelda 64), and I have faith in them boys at Nintendo. This systems worth buying.
Super Mario 64 -- the game Nintendo claimed to be the "best game of all time." Not quite. But it's good. Real good. This game is the only truly 3D game out there and is a must-buy. Beating the 15 levels and getting those 120 stars is 100% fun. Oh, and if you're good enough, Yoshi has a guest appearance!
My Rating: *****
Mortal Kombat Trilogy -- Burn this game. I would buy it just to burn it, so in that sense it's a must-buy, but this game is bad. Very repetitive, no difference between othe MK games. This series started plummeting when the sequal came out.
My Rating: *
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey -- At first, the game normal. Then you play two players. If you play against the system this game's another hockey game. But two-player action adds depth to it. I must warn you though, with two-players, bad language can get out of control. This one's a must-buy for any sports fan.
My Rating: ***1/2
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire -- The backgrounds sometimes appear "unfinished." That's all I have to say against this great game. Definitely a must-buy for N64 owners.
My Rating: ****1/2
WaveRace 64 -- This game is surprisingly good. The simulation of the waves is amazing. Another feature which I like, is that the 4 characters you can choose from are different. Each has their own style, and you'll find yourself sticking to one person (I liked the girl) because you can't control the others. Very very very very very close to a must-buy.
My Rating: ***3/4
Great Games: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Kart 64, Star Wars.
Good Games:Wave Race 64, Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey, Pilotwings 64 (sort of).
Bad Games: MK Trilogy, Killer Instinct Gold, Cruis'n USA (arcade is way better).
Games To Look Forward To:Wonder Project J2, Zelda 64

Sony Playstation
Since the whole deal with Square about how they're going to get 20 Square titles in the next year, I must say I love this system. I never had bad thoughts about it before, but now it's simply a must-buy. And it's not just Square games I want on it. Arc the Lad II is coming out, and it's gonna be a goodie.
Crash Bandicoot -- I gotta admit, the commercials are funny. And the game's OK. It's not a super platform game, though. It's fun, but there's no real reason to keep coming back. Not a must-buy, but not a bad one.
My Rating: ***1/2
Arc the Lad -- I love this game, despite its faults. Yes it suffered in the length department for an RPG, but the story was there and it was darn good.
My Rating: ****
Jet Motto -- Another one that surprised me. Although its wave simulations don't even compare to WaveRace's, this game is fun. Each race location has its own unique feel, and this game also provides that characteristic I like, each character you choose is different.
My Rating: ****
Fifa Intl Soccer '97 -- I love soccer, and I love this game. The players doing realistically looking moves together with the chanting of the realistic crowd, give this realistic game its realistic feel. I must-buy for soccer-lovers, and a good buy for everyone else.
My Rating: ****1/2
Great Games: Arc the Lad, Fifa Intl Soccer '97, Legacy of Kain, Tomb Raider.
Good Games: Jet Motto, Crash Bandicoot.
Bad Games: MK Trilogy, Diehard Trilogy, Lemmings 3D.
Games To Look Forward To: Final Fantasy VII, Arc the Lad II, Final Fantasy VII, Wild Arms, Final Fantasy VII, First Queen IV.

Return To Systems and Games
Sega Saturn
Sega got hit hard this past year. Before that, Nintendo and Sega were the big names and many other companies tried to join them (the most notable system was 3DO). But when Sony entered the contest, it not only became a video game giant, but gave Sega a big kick in the ass, and prevented them from being one. Well, that may be unfair, there are many Saturn owners who love their systems, but Sega did step down as number 2. And don't blame everything on the introduction of the Playstation, from what I've seen and played, I wouldn't buy the system.
Sonic 3D Blast -- I was never a huge Sonic fan like everyone else (I still can't believe a cartoon came out), but this game is good. The 3D aspect of it comes nowhere near Super Mario 64, but gives a good illusion of it. A must-buy for Saturn owners.
My Rating: ***3/4
Virtual On -- I've read a whole bunch of reviews saying how good this game is. I don't quite see how they like it that much. Every arena and character is different, I'll give it that, but the graphics aren't that impressive, and I'm not going to mention how easy it is to win against the system.
My Rating: ***1/2
NiGHTS -- I'd just like to say that this game is not good. Sega tries to make this game appear 3D, and goes way overboard. They have these twisting backgrounds that confuse you more than anything. Another thing, it's easy. Real easy. I mean, if you just push buttons and don't even pay attention, you'll pass a level. Spend your money somewhere else.
My Rating: **1/2
Bug Too! -- This game is super fun and well worth buying. It gives a good 3D illusion and lets the gameplay do all the rest.
My Rating: ****
Virtua Fighter Series -- I thought I'd the whole series in one spot. Don't take this the wrong way, but they're all the same. I'm not saying they're bad. In my opinion, they're the best fighting games out there, but there's not much difference between them. Definitely a must buy for Saturn owners, but just be sure to buy whichever is cheapest.
My Rating: ****
Great Games: Virtua Cop 2, Earthworm Jim 1 & 2, Riglord Saga, Virtua Fighter 1, 2, OR 3.
Good Games: Sonic 3D Blast, Virtua Cop, Virtual On.
Bad Games: NiGHTS, Wing Commander II, Eternal Champions.
Games To Look Forward To: Riglord Saga II, Air's Adventure, Tengai Makyo.

Super Nintendo
I don't care what anyone tells you, this system is beautiful. It's got all the classic games that you just have to experience, FF2, FF3, Chrono Trigger, the list goes on and on. It's almost a shame (almost a shame? It's a damn shame!) that this system will be pushed away into the back of closets since the introduction of the next generation stuff. I'll still play it, though. I know I will. If I could have one system, this would be it.
Super Mario World -- I've started all the other reviews with the system's main platform game, so why not this one, too. When this puppy came out I thought it had the coolest graphics (I still get a kick out of that part where Bowser comes flying up to the screen) and there will always be a place in my heart for the thing.
My Rating: ***3/4
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past -- This game 100% classic, and definitely a must buy. The puzzles are sometimes puzzling and how the light comes through the trees in the forest is just plain awesome.
My Rating: ****
Secret of Mana -- Compared to other games, this game is good. Compared to other Squaresoft games, this game is not-so-good. It's similar to Secret of Evermore, but it's missing something. I would rent for a week and beat it, but don't buy it.
My Rating: ***1/2
Final Fantasy II -- I thought I'd refrain from doing any FF's in the Other Review section, but I couldn't, I just couldn't. If you don't have this game, or if you have never played it, you are dumb. Get it, and get it fast.
My Rating: *****
Lufia 2 -- A good, good game. A beautifully well thought out game that keeps you coming back just to see what happens next. Definitely a must buy.
My Rating: ****1/2
Great Games: Final Fantasy II & III, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 2, Fifa '96.
Good Games: Secret of Mana, all DKC games.
Bad Games: Power Rangers Zeo, Yoshi's Island, all Tetris games

My Top Ten List
#10 Faxanadu -- NES -- yes, this game is for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. It may be outdated, but it is still worthy of my top ten list. The game offers strategy, and I enjoyed the thing even more than I enjoyed the first Final Fantasy.
#9 Secret of Evermore -- SNES -- this sort of new, SNES release had a creative twist that made it different than other RPG's and I liked it. The game was well thought out and it gave me a fun 3 or 4 weeks.
#8 Super Mario RPG -- SNES -- we all know it's not the hardest of games, but it was fun, wasn't it? I mean, any game that has Mario in it AND has a story-line is just meant to be bought.
#7 Lufia -- SNES -- another super SNES release that was awesome. This one is one of those must-play games, even though the SNES will soon be out-dated (I wish it weren't so, but it's true).
#6 Arc the Lad -- Playstation -- it was short, but the battle layouts totally made up for it, and how about that soundtrack? ALMOST as good as Final Fantasy III's.
#5 Lufia 2 -- SNES -- I'd like to note that it's hard to make a sequal to a classic game, and make it good. But on all accounts here, this one has surpassed the original. I wasn't looking forward to this release, because I didn't think it would be good. Boy was I wrong.
#4 Super Mario 64 -- N64 -- this game is magnificent. A true 3D environment that's just plain fun. The storyline's kinda blah (save the princess), but everything else is as remarkable as the graphics.
#3 Chrono Trigger -- SNES -- argue with me all you want about how this should be higher up on the list, cause deep down I probably agree with you, but I'm putting it here. This game is a super must-buy, and I strongly recommend for everyone.
#2 Final Fantasy II -- SNES -- this game was the apple of my eye for 4 years. I've played it more than any other game by far. I love everything from slicing up baddies with Cecil, to blowin' the crap out of'em with the Call spell Bahamut.
#1 Final Fantasy III -- SNES -- the game's number one on my top ten list, what else do you need to know?
