Tank Offense
This
is most practiced tactic of all: tank rushes. Many people are demanding
a patch from Westwood to 'fix' the supremity of tanks. Well, realistically,
tanks were one of the most powerful weapons during World War 1 and 2. In
WW1, tanks, developed by Germany, literally pierced into enemy bases. There
was no way of stopping them.
Let's get some things straight about tank rushes.
1.) Yes, they're what determines who 'wins' RA games most of the time.
2.)Yes its a brainless strategy...
3.)...but it's quite effective.
4.) To play well at RA you HAVE to do tank rushes.
5.) Practically nothing can stop tanks...
The most important use of tank rushes is to counter tankrushes or to recounter tank rushes. I'm going to skip all the details of how to build an effective tank rush and go on to the attacking tactics.
There is a standoff between me and my opponent. We both keep on making tons of tanks, but we're not attacking. Our numbers are basically the same, so how can I make sure that I win?
Simple. Fortify your position where your tanks are with a base. Make sure you have tesla coils/gun turrets up. Also make sure if they attack they HAVE to go through that way. Then make sure you DO NOT attack them. Let them attack you. Why? If the number of tanks are even, then you will have made a few more to add to your defenses when your opponent makes his offense. Also, your base defenses will help pick away at the approaching tanks. In addition, whenever you attack with a large number of tanks, your tanks are never together. Usually, they end up being a line. This means you'll have all your forces and a few tanks will appear. You blow those up quickly and a few more appear. You blow those few up again, and still a few more appear. This is why you will will win by defending.
There is a huge tank battle in the middle of the map, and I don't think I'm going to win. How do I make the enemy leave me alone?
Do this. Make sure you have a group of tanks away from the battle. It is most likely that your opponent will send in all their tanks to the huge battle in the center of the map. If he does that, his base is undefended. Send in your small groups of tanks, by going around the huge battle, and into the unoccupied base. Your opponent will have his screen on the battle, and the he'll be hearing the explosions and gunshots. He probably won't notice your tanks until you start to attack his buildings. When you attack, make sure you get his powerplants down to slow his tank production. You can get a lot of damage done before the enemy retreats his tanks from the battle in the center of the map back to his base. You'll have won that battle in the center of the map with fewer tanks because of that sneaky strategy.
Why is it that an infantry with a direct hit of tank fire it will still be alive?
I don't know, some silly thing Westwood forgot about looking at. Have tanks kill infantry by running over them. This can be tricky sometimes so use Alt-M to do this. Your tank will run over them much easier. Important: if there is a particular tanya you want dead, DO NOT try to run her over through the Alt-M method. Tanyas are faster then usual infantry. Use gun fire to kill her.
My opponent's and my tank armies are finally fighting it out. Unfortunatly, he has many more tanks then I do. Is there any way I can win?
Perhaps. It depends on how well your economy is doing and how far away the tank battle is from your base. Keep on building gun turrets and flame towers and make a chain of them going to the tank battle. Now place all the gun turrets and flametowers throwout the enemy's tank army. One fo two things will happen. One, the enemy will ignore the structures, thus allowing your tanks to all die and his to die to your structures. The other altrernative is if your enemy starts shooting at the structures. If he does this, then he will be focusing his fire on the structures while your tanks will be firing at his tanks. The result? Most of your flametowers/gun turrets will be destroyed but you'll have tanks left and his army will be destroyed. Also, remember that in any tank battle to have your tanks fire all at one tank at a time. Concentrated fire works wonders and can solve the grimest situations...
Can ANYTHING stop massive tank armies?
Yes! Besides playing on water maps or a land bridge with fleets of boats on either side, there is another way to stop a massive horde of tanks. Tesla Coils. Although Tesla Coils may be weak and drain lots of power, they are extremely powerful and accurate against infantry and tanks. Gun turrets miss a lot, even when they hit they don't do enough damage. Five tesla coils in a single spot will cut the largest tank army to shreds. To counter against this use a couple of MIGs or better yet, V-2 rockets.
