Outsiders and the Drifting World
The Drifting World's peculiar position in the multiverse makes it difficult
to get to and equally difficult to leave. Since it has no stable connection
to or relationship with any other universe, it is harder to find than other
known universes and almost impossible to maintain interdimensional gates.
A world-jumper is at a penalty of -(6+2d6) in addition to any other penalties
he may suffer to reach the Drifting World, and at a -(6+2d6) to leave the
Drifting World to reach any other known dimension. Cross-dimensional gates
take twice the usual time to install and, once set up, can only be maintained
for 1d6 days.
As one might imagine, the difficulties involved in reaching the Drifting
World have prevented outsiders from setting up permanent installation or
even sending long-term survey missions, since mission resupply and pick-up
become difficult if not impossible. The minimal surveys that have been performed
indicate that high-tech devices will work normally, but there are as yet
no indications what long-term effects the Drifting World might have on high
technology. The underside and the epicycles are completely unexplored. The
operation of gravity on the Drifting World, while clearly unusual, is not
well understood.
