| Warning
about the Taiwan.CNET.com movie! The movie is 43Mb so think
very carefully about downloading. I downloaded it last night. The
movie is very good but almost everything in it was seen before. It
tells the story from the destruction of our solar system through escape
of few people in great ships to establishing of new colonies and creation
of the Houses in FreeLancer. Graphically
everything looks extraordingly beautifull. If the gameplay will be
so good the game will be great. If you don't want to download the
movie I have watched it and HERE
is the story. |

What
did Chris Roberts say about multiplayer version of the FreeLancer
game:
Chris
Roberts: The only thing that we've fallen away from was trying to
do it all in one game. I was trying to do a massively multiplayer
game and a single player game as one. There are some conflicting
goals in that because the story that works in a multiplayer game
just isn't as compelling compared with a single player story. We
tried for a long time but the story and script that we kept coming
back to just wasn't interesting enough as a single player experience.
You can't really have things that are directly affecting the player
because of the way other people interact with each other as they
play. So multiplayer stories revolve around bigger factions doing
stuff or discovering things but not really affecting what's happening
in the world. We felt like the single player experience wants that.
You want to be the hero. So we kind of split them apart and I'm
pretty happy with that decision. But that was the original lofty
goal that we didn't deliver on.
About
when the game will be in stores:
Chris
Roberts: Our next milestone is what Microsoft calls "code-complete"
which is probably the end of September. The next milestone will
be content-complete which is all the content in as well as all the
code fully functional which is at the end of the year and after
that it's really going to be testing. So hopefully it'll be out
by spring of next year.

I
made a new poll. I thought i would be interesting to see what kind
of missions you like most. My personal favorites are Patrol Nav
Points.
According
to the old poll most of you don't know what to think about mouse
driven interface. 56% of voters say that they need a demo to decide.
But interestingly, only 5% of voters say that they hate the idea.
Look at the resulst in Poll Archive.

I
found a interesting piece of news about pirate stations. It seams
we'll be able to land there and do bussines:
While
pulling that trigger won’t make much impact at the beginning of
the game, as time goes by, you’ll be able to stop at different planets
or space stations and buy weapons upgrades. Since this game is still
18 months from release, nothing’s yet written in stone, but we got
a quick look at the effects of the standard laser, the Ion Laser
Turret and the Heat Seeker Missile. Those who manage to recover
artifacts of the Precursors (which are illegal to own in most systems
– the government is trying to keep them all to themselves) will
also be able to enter pirate bases and find black market mechanics
who will be willing to use the technology of the device the player
has found to add extremely powerful weapons to the ship.
