Chapter 5: Back and Forth, To and Fro
When Brian woke up, he first noticed the pounding pain in his arm, although he noticed that the cuts we bandaged. Suddenly it dawned on him. He was cut? But it was only a dream! That meant that anything that happened to him in the dream happened to him in his real life...including death. Just then he noticed that Charlotte and Sharon, another one of the kitchen girls, panicking as if it were the end of the world. “Hey, what-ahhh!” he started, but as soon as he started to get up, he was forced to lay back down by the blazing pain shooting through his arm. As soon as Charlotte and Sharon heard a single noise come from Brian they spun around like a greased dancer. “L-l-laddie!” Charlotte stuttered. “Y-y-you’re alive!” shouted Sharon. “What happened you two!” Brian screamed, partly because he wanted to know what happened, and partly because he wanted the two kitchen girls to stop screaming over a few wounds (however deep they were) that could be fixed with a simple Healing spell. “Y-y-you fell a-a-asleep like y-y-you’ve been doing l-l-lately and and-” began Charlotte. “Those cuts just appeared from nowhere!” Sharon interupted quickly. Brian decided it was time to set things right. he cast his Healing spell on the cuts and removed his bandage, then showed the ladies. “There, I’m fine. May I have some time to think about what’s been going on, please?” “First laddie, you must explain what’s been going on!” Charlotte half-yelled, half-ordered. “Look, Charlotte, I think I understand what’s going on right now a lot better than you do, I’ll explain it to you when it’s all over, but please, leave me alone for now.” Brian remarked rather sharply. “Fine, Brian, you don’t have to get rude about it.” Sharon remarked back sharper. “Sheesh, she reminds me of Felanya the first time we met.” Brian thought. “Fine, laddie, if ye must be alone, we’ll let ya be. But you must stay in bed!” Brian agreed to this, and the two women left. As soon as he was sure that the duo that would not return, he jumped up and grabbed the twine, which Charlotte had removed from his hand. Tying his staff back to his hand, he decided it was time for some heavy thinking about what exactly was going on. First of all, he knew to be more careful about fighting Gran. He had just barely gotten nicked by Gran and his claws had slashed deep. With a single blow, he could chop off an arm, leg....or a head. All beyond the range of his Healing spell. Second...second...Brian found he couldn’t think strait. His head felt light. THUMP Brian hit the pillows. Awakening in Lingora, he realized he was once again in the middle of the town. The market was busy that day, it seemed, but in an instant Felanya was by his side and had dragged him into her house. “How did you get back all of a sudden!” she yelled the instant she had closed the door. “Uh, well, I, uh...” Brian stuttered, terrified by Felanya’s outburst. “Out with it!” the noise continued. “Well, I was fighting the monster when I woke up, then I fell asleep again and I was in the marketplace again.” Brian said. “’Waking up’? ‘Falling asleep’? What do you mean?” Felanya asked. Brian smacked his forehead and tryed to explain the whole thing, but Felanya remained perplexed. Eventually Brian decided to ask Felanya for another bag of supplies for his next battle. Before she could respond, Brian woke up again. “Hunh?” Brian mumbled. THUMP Again Brian’s view cleared in Felanya’s house. “WHAT, DO YOU HAVE SOME KIND OF TELEPORT SPELL YOU’D LIKE TO SHOW OFF NOW?!?!?!?!” she roared at him. “I-I-I-w-w-w-woke uhp ag-ag-again....” Brian stuttered. Felanya’s face again betrayed confusion. “I told you bef-” Brian suddenly shook as if someone were shaking him and disappeared. Brian opened his eyes to Melrode Monestary and Charlotte staring at him. “Och laddie, y’ere awake now!” Before Brian could react to the sudden turn of events, he fell asleep again and reawakened to Felanya’s back. She turned around and yelled “Quit doing that!” “I’m not-” before Brian could even start to say what he wanted to, he put his hands in front of his face as if hit by something and disappeared once again. Wet. That’s how Brian felt. Wet. He suddenly realized that Charlotte had dumped a bucket of him. However, the water didn’t keep him concious for long. He fell asleep once again. “Cut it out, Brian.” Felanya’s voice rang. “I’m not controlling my waking up!” Brian yelled. “Could you tell me what you mean?!” Felanya’s voice was near shrieking. “I can’t really explain it, but I think if this is ever going to stop I nedd to kill that wizard!” “Fine, fine,” Felanya sorrowfully remarked,. “I’ll pack you a bag of supplies.” And she did so. “Here’s your supllies.” she said, and sent him off. “Kick that wizard’s sorry butt this time, Brian!”
