Recent changes:
Wow. Bonny Swans... really... jumped. By 23 spaces, to be exact. It's, um, now my third favorite song, even though it was original around 26. Not bad.
Lots of new songs debuted. One More Time, by Daft Punk (you know, with the blue guys at the concert?), two ATC songs, two Mandy Moore songs, and another Loreena McKennitt song, Blacksmith. Lots of movement... and quite a few songs got bumped off. Included a high drop from Get Another Boyfriend by the Backstreet Boys *off*, as well as No Strings Attached slipping off the chart, too.
Phew! Okay, here we go.
1. Move Your Body, Eiffel 65. It was a hard won battle, but after listening to the song countless times, I still enjoyed hearing it every time. As much as I hated to see Loreena McKennitt slip to number 2 (I still love her to death!), I simply love this song too much to let it go. Move Your Body is repetitious, pointless, annoying, and has terrible lyrics, and yet, somehow, it's impossible to listen to this song and not 'move your body'. Background music is out of this world, lyrics are cute, and the catchiness is incredible. Europop kicks.
2. Loreena McKennitt, All Soul's Night. Incredible. After years as my favorite song, my practical best friend (no, I've never met her, but..) has slipped down to number 2. Is Eiffel 65 more deserving of number 1? Who knows. Eiffel 65's my favorite group, Loreena's my favorite singer. With incredibly well-made lyrics, a beautiful voice, and the ability to create images with words, Loreena McKennitt's All Soul's Night will forever be a favorite song of mine.
3. Bonny Swans, Loreena McKennitt. Ay-he-ho-and a bonny-oh, or something. I love this song, always have, always will. I don't understand the song, because I'm usually too busy concentrating on her incredible voice and irresistable tones to listen to the lyrics. I adore this song. It's what makes Loreena so great.
4. Waiting For Tonight, Jennifer Lopez. Oh oh, oh! Nobody hates this song *too* much, with her beautiful voice and beautiful body. It's a shame, because when I try to sing the high parts, I always strain on the high vocal parts. It's too bad the remix cut out the "oh oh, oh!" parts, because it's not the same without them.
5. Everyone, Backstreet Boys. With a song like this on their new CD, how could the Backstreet Boys lose? The lyrics are fairly reminescent of Larger Than Life, but this song is just too cool to ignore. It's amplified time and time again if you can hear the background music, too.
6. Crash And Burn, Savage Garden. The most loved-by-all boy band of all time, Crash and Burn is the kind of song that your boy/girlfriend will make 'yours'. It's sweet, but not slow, warm, and well thought out with incredible lyrics and a great voice. Deserving of the number 6 spot.
7. Last Resort, Papa Roach. What? Has someone kidnapped our sweet, innocent Peppy and replaced him with some hardcore rocker guy who lives for lyrics involving cursing, killing, and suicide? Nope. Everybody's got an evil side, and Papa Roach happens to be mine. A well-written song with the best background music ever, proves that even little pop-rock weirdos like myself can like rock songs.
8. Standing Stones, Loreena McKennitt. People who think music these days is too pointless, lacks feeling, and isn't sang well needs to listens to this song. *Bad*. A song about jealously, love, and murder, her beautiful voice chants out a story of a girl of high rank falling in love with one inferior to her. A jealous admirer of the girl killed the man on Christmas Eve, and when his ghost comes back to tell the girl, she goes with him that night. The song is so beautiful, it's not funny.
9. Blue (da ba dee), Eiffel 65. Get out of my head!! Out! Out, foul beast! Hear this song once, it'll stick in your head for an hour. Hear it twice, it's stuck there for a day. Thrice, prepare for a week of "I'm blue, da ba dee ba da bye". Hear it more than three times, and Blue is going to take you over. Of course, I love every single minute that it's been lodged in my head.
10. One More Time, Daft Punk. I never fail to amaze myself. How can I possibly enjoy a song that goes "Music's got me feelin' so free, we're gonna celebrate, celebrate and dance so free, one more time" for 6 and a half minutes non-stop?... because the song rules, that's why! ... yeah...
11. Love Don't Cost a Thing, Jennifer Lopez. Really! Love don't cost ANYTHING! Well, okay, that might not be true unless you're a cat or something, but with a *really* sexy video and an awesome half-pop, half-Toni Braxton-type R&B style, you can't go wrong. Jennifer's so sweet, too. ^^ You should've heard me scream my head off on December 13th, 2000, when this song hit number 1 on TRL. I was ecstastic.
12. Ojos Asi, Shakira. So what if I can't understand a word of the song? She sounds great, since Spanish is a romance language, and I can just tell that the lyrics are meaningful. Or maybe I'm just guessing. Whatever it is, this song is catchy and won the International Music Award for.. I think Latin America.. at the Video Music Awards of 2000. Cool. This song had been lingering for a while in the 20's on my chart, but I finally realized how much I love this song. I've kept it on Napster forever!
13. What Makes You Different (Makes You Beautiful), Backstreet Boys. I don't like slow songs, but this one really touched my soul. The lyrics seem a little more original and unique than the average boy band song, and the harmonization is just perfect.
14. In My Pocket, Mandy Moore. Okay, this song makes no sense (but it is "edgier" than her other stuff! Whatever.), but I really like it. The music video's okay, but the song is, by far, the best part. Catchy!
15. If You Had My Love, Jennifer Lopez. What I'd give if I had this exotic woman's love. With a great music video with dancing, computers, and digital getting down with Jennifer, one would think her voice would be crummy. But.. it's.. not. Or *I* don't think so.
16. Holler, Spice Girls. While I'm not so sure about the *message* going out (They want to make me holler! Cough, cough), the song is awesome. The background music is magical, airy, slightly Loreena McKennitty, and it's at least a quadrillion times better than that obnoxious "If you wanna be my lover" quote. Girl power! ... smack me, I can't believe I said that.
17. Binge, Papa Roach. Not much I can say about this song, except it proves that rock doesn't have to be unmelodicious. Awesome lyrics about the evils of drinking, which is an *awesome* idea. No cursing, even better.
18. Luka, Suzanne Vega. Is this song about a daughter who gets abused? Or a wife? I can't tell! But whatever it is, it's got a real deep meaning, along with a sort of "well, I'm getting abused. I don't know why, but I am" sort of thought. Oo. Cool.
19. Around The World, ATC. La la la la la, it goes around the world, and la la la la la! This group is Australian, la la la la la, I think the CD's cool and la la la la la, this is really annoying, la la la la la...
20. I Want It That Way, Backstreet Boys. Proof that slow songs don't have to be mushy. N'sync needs to take a lesson from these guys. Not only is it not boring, but all five of the guys get a part. I don't think *any* N'sync songs involve all five guys. Nick, A.J., Brian, Kevin, and Howie all sound great singing their part, even if Nick is a little bit squeeky.
21. Oops.. I Did It Again, Britney Spears. She may have played with my heart, but she didn't lose in this game. She looks really, really, really really really fine in the music video, and her voice is totally unique. I like it. That jumpsuit looks great. Oh yeah, and the song's good too. :)
22. Something Deep Inside, Mandy Moore. I actually heard this song because I tried to download her song 'In My Pocket', but for some reason, I got this song. I liked it a lot, but it wasn't In My Pocket. After a bit of searching, I found the true title. Wasn't this a lovely story?
23. So In Love With Two, Mikaila. I have never seen this music video, nor heard this song ont he radio. I saw it on a website, something about "This hot new start is tearin' up the charts!" I thought, hey, what the heck, I'll download it on Napster. Very, very good idea. ^^ This song is funny, well-sang, and just all around awesome.
24. Blacksmith, Loreena McKennitt. This is a sad song! About a woman who fell in love with a man,and I think left for a while, and when she came back, the man had married another woman. That is really sad. For some reason, this song reminds me of "Much Ado About Nothing" by William Shakespeare... anyway. I love Loreena McKennitt.
25. I Wish, R. Kelly. When I first heard this song, I didn't like it. Three listens and a Napster download later, I couldn't get it off of my mind. This song lowered my opinions of all pop bands a little bit, because I finally realized what music was. This song touched me in a really, really weird way. Positively amazing lyrics. The cursing wasn't necessary, but I just downloaded the edited version. Bravo, R. Kelly. Bravo.
26. Mistake No. 2, ATC. This song has *got* to be one of their next singles. It rules! I bet it would climb pretty darn high on the TRl charts, since it's... um... pretty poppish. Yeah.
27. Most Girls, Pink. Pink herself is kind of gross, but this song has a similar idea like Love Don't Cost a Thing. Money shouldn't be a part of relationship - love should. Simple as that. The song also kicks butt.
28. Bye Bye Bye, N'sync. "Oo, yuck, I hate this song." "They're a bunch of bi bi bis, huh huh!" "I wish they'd die die die already!" Just... shut up. And listen to the song. The song that proved that N'sync isn't a bunch of sissy geeks who sings mushy, crummy songs. Well, with a couple exceptions (*shudder* at God Must've Spent, *double shudder* at Music of my Heart*). J.C., Justin (the only two who you can actually hear :P ), Lance, Joey, and Chris sound okay, but not as good as they could. Ahhh, well. ^^
29. Telling Stories, Tracy Chapman. I've always loved Ms. Chapman's work, a little bit of pop, a little bit of R&B, and a whole lot of originality. A talented musician, almost all of her songs are great.
30. Lady Marmalade, Pink, Mya, Christina Aguilera, and L'il Kim. Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir? It's a little surprising how well the four women (and girls) pronounce the French. It's not perfect, but... anyway, I wanna see 'Moulin Rouge' now, if only to hear this song again!
I'm.. weird, eh?
Your music taste stinks! I'm outta here!
