This is my opinion, and my opinion alone! And it won't include any Playstation RPG's, either. Only the games I wanna rate. ^^() I'll try to be fair, but I'm just diverging my opinions because.. well, because I'm BORED. Okay?! Note that this page has a lot of images, so you may wanna wait a minute or two for them to load.
Games will be rated upon a buncha things-Storyline, Graphics, Sound, Challenge (not ALWAYS a good thing), Addiction, Replay Value, Play Control (yeah, I had to include it), and Overall. Overall is not an average-it's merely what I thought of it. The first game to be reviewed would have to be the captivating Pokémon. Coming in three versions (Red, Blue, and Yellow), Pokémon is one of the most addicting and popular things of the late 1990's and early 2000's. 150 Pokémon at your disposal. Tough enough to catch 'em all? Storyline: 7.3: Well, granted, it's not the best story to hit the RPG world. You're a kid who wants to become Pokémon Master. It's certainly original enough, and there's a few sub plots with Team Rocket to keep it interesting. Graphics: 7.0: The Pokémon all look great, but the back of their heads really needed some work. All the cute Pokémon are cute, tough are tough, etc. etc. There could've been a little more work on the overworld map characters. Most of the Pokémon just looked like a big bear thingy. Sound: 8.1: Usually quite catchy and nice, and not usually too repetitious. Challenge: 7.8: Not too hard, but then again, not always too easy. The Pokémon League is tough enough to keep you leveling up plenty, and Brock is quite difficult in Pokémon Yellow. Addiction: 9.6: This game is obnoxiously addicting. Even when you're not playing the game, you're addicted by the TV show, toys, posters, books, everything. And the game is even more so. Replay Value: 8.9: There's 150 different Pokémon. You can try a different set each time, using the different TM's you find, and try to raise the biggest and best Pokémon you can. This game has kept me entertained for WEEKS. No kidding. Play Control: 9.3: Well, what did you expect? It's all nice and easy to move and all. Overall: 9.2: A magnificent game, if I do say so myself. Growlithe (the fire puppy, shown above, shooting an Ember!) is my favorite Pokémon! Isn't he so cute? I also love Caterpie. And Gengar, too! Anyway, this game's got enough Pokémon to keep everything interesting, a bunch of great attacks, and an awesome plot. Next up would have to be my personal favorite game of all time, Secret of Mana. A miraculous game that really introduced me to the world of RPG's. Actually, that would be Zelda 2: Adventure of Link, but I didn't know that was an RPG at the time. With an arsenal of great weapons with awesome skill-ups and superior magic, this game is best with two or especially three players. Storyline: 9.2: You can't really deny that this is an exceptionally well made storyline. A young dude pulls out the mystical Sword of Mana, releasing the monsters to come into his village of Potos. Fighting a gigantic empire attempting to control Mana to take over the world, with only his courage, strength, and friendship with a girl and sprite, he's gotta replenish the sword by recovering all 8 mana seeds. And that's actually quite a POOR summary. An incredible, novel-worthy game. Graphics: 7.9: A lacking part.. the graphics are quite good and colorful, but there's a lot of mess-ups and glitches (minor) that come as a part to the visuals. Nyat good. Sound: 8.9: An excellent soundtrack, whether happy, sad, heroic, or spooky, this game delivers all. Challenge: 8.3: Perhaps not too hard, but definetly LONG. This game has extreme length to it, with hundreds of enemies and bosses. Often it was a bit too easy to defeat bosses, since most of the power relied on the Sprite's magic. Addiction: 8.6: Rather addicting, since this game doesn't require too much 'extra' leveling up, so you won't get bored by spending hours on end leveling up your characters. Maybe magic leveling, though, might be too slow. Replay Value: 8.0: A fun game, but once you've played it once, you've played the whole thing. Play Control: 8.3: All nice and easy, although sometimes attacks were too innacurate (although I think that was actually meant to be a dodge.. they should've included 'miss' or something). Overall: 9.8: Despite a number of problems, I can't help but grant my favorte game a near-perfect grade. This game is just.. beautiful. Best with two friends, but you'll need a multitap for that. Next on this list is an RPG honored for it's originality and fun, Chrono Trigger. Most certainly not the first game to invoke time travel, but probably one of the best to do so, Chrono Trigger has an excellent cast of characters that no one can deny. Storyline: 8.5: Some things were a bit glitched and could've made more sense, but all in all, it was rather unique and interesting. Graphics: 9.2: A few attacks are in *3-D*, which is incredible. Not cheap 3-d either, realistic and colorful it is. And the other icon graphics are quite good, too. Sound: 8.6: Sound effects were good, music was even better. Challenge: 7.5: Could've been a bit harder, I think. Addiction: 9.4: This will be an incredibly hard game to put down. Not just because of the story. Could've used some more attacks for originality, though. And a defense action woulda been nice. Replay Value: 8.2: A couple new things per game, but once you've played it once, you've played the whole game. EXCEPT for the endings, which there are 13 of. Fun. Play Control: 9.2: What can I say? Only problem is that sometimes it's a bit easy to get things confused. Like, I keep thinking I'm attacking with Ayla, but using Marle instead. Or something. Overall: 9.3: A stupendeous game that really set a lot of standards as far as RPG's go. It's got too many glitches to count, but it's still an incredible experience. Next on the list would be a classic RPG, with a whole lot of varied opinions. Mostly positive, but this RPG isn't adored by all. Much like anime, the English dubbed version is often frowned upon by most (though I think I'd probably prefer the good ol' American version). Setting a standard for it's then-rather original storyline, this game is none other than Final Fantasy 2. Storyline: 9.1: Quite good. An interesting way of tying everything together. It's got everything from Paladins to crystals to hypnotism to kidnapping. Graphics: 6.5: Owch. The graphics inside battles weren't really too bad, but they *really* hurt outside of battles. Awful icons, they are. They're practically EVIL. OooOOo.. Sounds: 8.2: Not bad. Quite catchy and interesting.. most of the time. Challenge: 7.5: FFIV was harder. FFII will be really difficult for RPG newbies, but experienced RPers should find no problems. The final boss is one of the hardest in any RPG I've ever played. Addiction: 7.8: The storyline is good, but too gradual to be "Oh my god, what happens next?? I must keep playing!!" Play Control: 9.8: Heh, I don't see where it could've been improved much. Overall: 8.2: A nice game, definetly good for the RPG lovers. A must-play. It set an impressive amount of standards for RPG's, having been made in 1992 and all. See more ratings!
