Why does some of this seem so familiar?
You may have already noticed that there is a striking similarity in this army to another work of fiction, namely Star Trek. This is no coincidence, I got my the idea for the Technopods from the Borg in Star Trek: The Next Generation. They provided a useful starting point for a new race.
However, this army is not a direct ripoff of the Borg. The Technopods do not conform to Borg standards. They do use the mechanical bodies, the hive-mind style collective and the assimilation tactics, but there are differences. The Borg carry field generators that are capable of becoming immune to a weapon.
To keep the Technopods balanced in the game, this was left out completely. In fact, Technopods who wear any kind of field are at a disadvantage as the field disrupts their link to the Overmind. The Borg are basically all the same, with no special units that have enhanced capabilities (ok,ok, there is that cool queen thing from First Contact). The Technopod units vary by race. The tech-humans are well rounded, the tech-orks are tough and strong, the tech-eldar are fast, well you get the point.
This army has access to something from nearly every army available in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, making it a powerful and diverse group. This is offset by their lack of allies, however, which maintains the balance.
