Be Careful What You Wish For

Chapter 1: How It All Began

"So now that we've saved the world, what next?" asked Mario. He, Toadstool, Bowser, and Mallow were all gathered together at Mario's pad.

"Well, I guess we just have to go back to our regular lives," replied Toadstool.

"What?!"

"Well, we have no other choice. What did you expect?"

"There must be some other bad guy to beat." At this, Bowser glanced at Toadstool with an evil gleam in his eye. Mario glared at him. "Don't even think about it!" Bowser started to whistle innocently. Mario rolled his eyes. "Now then. . .I really wish there was a way to get in on the action in another place." Mallow glanced around uneasily.

"Y-you'd better be careful. . .you just made a wish and it'll probably come true!"

"Would you boys like another banana shake?" asked Candy Kong.

"No thanks, I'm full," groaned Diddy.

"Same here," said Donkey.

All of the Kongs had gathered on the beach for a vacation, since they had nothing else to do.

"Why do we have to lounge around here when we could be in video games? I know the next one won't be out 'till September, but couldn't we think up another one or something until then?" complained Dixie.

"In my day, we never had to wait months for video games," Cranky started blabbering. "We always had one or another to keep us occupied."

"Oh, stop that nonsense, dear! The children have enough on their minds," said Wrinkly Kong, Cranky's wife.

"Enough on their minds indeed!" snorted Cranky.

"Gee, Mrs. Wrinkly, I really think you're the nicest old -- er, young at heart gorilla I've ever met," interrupted Funky as he came from the water.

"Why, thank you my dear!" Wrinkly said.

"Hey, hey! What about me?!" said Cranky angrily.

"Oh, you're the second -- to the last, that is!" said Funky. Donkey, Dixie, and Diddy burst out laughing. Cranky got really mad.

"In my day, we always had to respect our elders, or we'd get a beating!" he yelled.

"Oh, go on!" laughed Dixie. "But I still wish we could have some sort of adventure in another place."

Now, it just so happened that Mario and Dixie made their wishes at the same time. So. . .

"What's that noise?!" Toadstool suddenly asked, horrified. Bowser looked out the window.

"Get down, it looks like a tornado!" he yelled.

"That's no tornado! I think Mario's wish is about to be granted!"

"Ahhhhhh!!! It's surrounded the Pad! We're trapped!"

"Do you hear something?" asked Cranky, standing up.

"It's probably the old geezer's ears ringing!" whispered Dixie to Diddy. They both laughed.

"No, it sounds like a hurricane!"

"Yeah, sure, Crank-o! Dream on," grinned Funky.

"EEEEK!!! Then what do you call that thing?!" screamed Candy, pointing. "It's heading right towards us!!!"

Both spinning winds picked up the two groups.

"I just can't believe he's gone again," sighed Marle sadly. She and her friends were upstairs in Crono's house in 1001 AD.

"Ayla sad too," said Ayla, "But Marle should handle it and go on with life."

"But I just can't stand living without him. I wish he was still alive! We--"
