The Empress:

Height:  8'1"
Weight:  Estimated at 280 lbs.
Skin:  Bronze colored (metallic)
Hair:  White
Eyes:  Violet-magenta with no pupils visible
Abilities:  Extremely high strength coupled with martial arts training, energy blast, flight, regeneration, armored skin.
Background:  259 years ago, a woman on a distant planet from Earth discovered a powerful object, an obelisk that granted power to the person who found it.  Even without the obelisk the woman had been special among her people.  Towering at just over 8 feet tall, she possessed incredible physical strength and her skin could be transformed into a bronze like metal at her will.  She also seemed to stop aging when she reached about her 28th year.  The obelisk linked with her life force and gave her additional powers.  Nobody seems to know the entire extent of her abilities, but she has demonstrated in the past incredible regenerative abilities
With her personal abilities came political power on the planet.  Her charm, beauty, and charisma were nearly equal to her physical abilities, enabling her to appeal to her people, and lead them effectively.  She quickly rose to the position of planetary governor, but didn't stop there. Realizing that her planet was becoming overpopulated, she devoted incredible amounts of resources to developing faster than light travel.  Her efforts paid off in a relatively short amount of time, and the first starship was constructed.
With control of her planet solidified and the ability to reach other places, the woman began to spread her influence to neighboring systems.  After conquering and consolidating the surrounding systems, she named herself empress of the star systems and has since then been known only as the Empress, and her empire is known as the Imperial Legion of the Stars.
She stumbled across Earth quite by accident, and it's actually her most bitter enemy that caused it to happen.  Upon her arrival, she immediately began making plans to bring Earth into her fold.  The world leaders were opposed to this, of course, and so the fight began when a battle fleet showed up a short time later, looking for the missing ship that carried the Empress.  The fighting was fierce on the battlefield, but extreme caution was taken to ensure that civilian casualties were kept as small as possible.  In the end, the Empress was successful in conquering the Earth.  Quality of life has improved quite a bit since the world leaders learned of the Morgoth threat and have become quite a bit more cooperative with the Empress.
As an interesting side note, the Empress has been killed... several times in fact.  Once shortly after arriving on Earth, she even had the misfortune of meeting up with the business end of a sidewinder missile.  It was a spectacular explosion.  She was back less than 24 hours later.  Nobody is sure how this occurs, whether her regenerative abilities work even if she's 'dead' or if there's some other power that she possesses that allows her to escape to some other plane or dimension if death is imminent.  Doubtless the Empress knows, but she doesn't like to talk about her abilities, even to her most trusted aides, so it is unlikely that anyone will know for sure anytime soon.
