Background:  Victoria Paige is the youngest of four children born to Jonathan and Emily Paige. Jonathon, who flew in the R.A.F. durng the Battle of Britain in World War II, owns a successful import business that spans the globe. Victoria's older brothers, Jonathan II and Stanley, both work for the family business. So does Victoria's older sister Hillary.

No other family members have super abilities, though Emily has an uncanny sense of intuition.

Paige Manor is located in the English countryside outside of London.

Due to the family's wealth, Victoria got the best of everything while growing up. She excelled in her studies. In fact, she did so well that her father that her father rewarded her by occasionally taking her on business trips around the world while she was still in her teens. This encouraged her to learn foreign languages.

After graduating at the top of her prep school class, Victoria enrolled at Cambridge University. It was while Victoria (Vicki to her friends) was a freshman that her telepathic and telekinetic powers manifested themselves. She always had a good memory, but now she seemed to remember everything she read, and the smallest details of events and encounters in her life.

Confused and away from home, Victoria spent some time trying to figure out what to do. She just couldn't tell her parents or friends. Her family would be embarrassed, she thought, and her friends would not trust her. Someone would could read minds would frighten many people.

While Victoria was doing some soul searching, a supervillian by the name of Macavity was starting to make a name for himself in London's underworld. A criminal with the ability to control the minds of others, he soon controlled a good chunk of the organized crime syndicate. He set about to make himself a rich man by having his lackeys rob businesses throughout London. One of his first targets: Paige Imports/Exports.

With the police baffled by the crime, Victoria decided to test her powers by solving this case. She had always loved Sherlock Holmes novels, and she was on a break from classes so she had time to "have some fun."

First, she found out everything she could from the police. Then she planned on doing some research on the streets, but not as Victoria Paige, but as Mindwave, her new alter-ego.

Every superheroine needs a costume, and Victoria used her new powers to get the top fashion designers in Paris to design one for her. Through clever manipulations (and a few "suggestions"), a sleek costume was completed. Victoria used her powers to make the designers forget what they did, for their own safety, but she did pay them handsomely. The designers just can't remember what they did for the money they got...

Armed with her powers and a fancy costume, Mindwave made her debut. She tracked down Macavity via his lackeys. After giving Scotland Yard an anonymus tip, Mindwave discovered that Macavity was about to slip away. She had to stop him, or at least slow him down.

Using the element of surprise, Mindwave easily dispatched with Macavity's henchmen. But Macavity proved to be a superior psionic in a mental duel, something Mindwave had not engaged in before. She was almost unconscious when the police arrived, forcing Macavity to flee, but not before Macavity left this message in her mind, "I will be back." Mindwave's mental defenses kept her secret identity safe, but she knew she was not going back to a normal life.

Despite losing the mental duel, Mindwave did stop Macavity's crime spree, and gained the thanks and cooperation of the police. She decided to continue crimefighting and hone her mental skills.

Her secret didn't last long against her mother's intuition (she "knew" something was up), but to Victoria's surprise, her family approved her newfound career. Though Victoria (like the rest of the family) tends to be a bit snobbish, her parents did raise a fine young woman who knew that with great power comes great responsibility. She knew what she had to do.

Victoria spent eight years at Cambridge, earning degrees in psychology, European literature, and library science. After graduating, Victoria moved into a townhouse in London, where she worked as a librarian and a tutor.

Over the years, Mindwave has earned quite a reputation among Europe's superheroes and metavillians alike. Her powers have increased, as well as her control. It has been nearly 15 years since that first encounter with Macavity, and experience has taught her many things. She has battled metavillians and normal criminals alike. Her main adversaries are Macavity and Professor Moriarity, an insane genius who actually believes he is the fictional character from the Sherlock Holmes novels.

The British press, especially the tabloids, are always looking for a scoop when it comes to superheroes. Victoria decided to keep a low profile as Mindwave in the media. The less people know about her powers, the better. She prefers to be subtle in her approach to crimefighting. Reporters and cameras only get in the way.

Her philosophy, both as Victoria Paige and Mindwave, is "brains over brawn." This is reflected in combat as well. Mindwave is a "finesse" superheroine, and will not engage in hand-to-hand unless there is no other option. She will use her telekinesis and telepathic powers from a distance to finish a fight quickly. Mindwave will do as much research as possible on a case, as she does not like to jump into anything without looking at all the angles first. Mindwave likes to outthink her opponents. She is all business when working on a case or battling an archcriminal. Victoria is an avid reader and always has a book in-hand or nearby. She is fluent in a number of languages and enjoys playing tennis (she never misses attending Wimbeldon), riding horses, and playing the piano. She loves classical music, the theatre, opera, and travelling.

Because of her affluent family, Victoria moves in the upper crust of British society. Her aristorcratic attitude makes her seem cold and aloof. Fifteen years of being a superheroine has not been easy. It leaves very little time for a personal life. Victoria is not married, and this concerns her parents. Victoria is in her mid-thirties now.

Several years ago, Mindwave was approached by the leader of the United Nations International Super Teams (IST), Argurous Astraph (Greek for "Silver Lightning"). Astraph encouraged Mindwave to join IST. In several years, she has travelled the world performing various assignments for IST (her family's business is a great cover story for Victoria travelling all over). It was on an assignment to Denver, Colorado, that Mindwave first encountered The Empress, and her life changed...
