The Byzantine deployed Volusian (the C-in-C) with his knights between
the monastry and the WW. Philagrius deployed his Ps in the monastry and
vineyard with his Bd on the road and the Cv to our left of the road. Nicius
deployed either side of the scrub.
I deployed Richemont in two lines next to the WW. Wamba next to him,
the bow line ended level with the left hand side of the monastry. Uraias
deployed behind and to the left of Wamba, with the Kn inbehind, the Ps
to
the left of the Bw and the LH on the far left.
The plan was to attack done the right, with the bow in support and to mask the monastry, if we could shoot down its defenders then so much the better. The LH and Ps on the left would hold up the two byzantine commands as long as they could.
The byzantine attacked our left while holding their knights. Because we where forced to come past the monastry I detached part of the Bw line and the Ps from Uraias to attack the monastry. After several bounds we destroyed the Ps defenders for the loss of 2 Bw. The LH and remaining Ps were under pressure on the left but holding up the byzantine attack well.
At this point the rain started and it would remain raining for the rest
of the battle. On the right Ricemont was about to go in. He has been delayed
by his last 3 PIP dice being 1,1,2!!! The knight clash was inconclusive
in
the first round, with the +1 fighters bonus being critical for our
survival in several cases. The 2 LH next to the WW died quickly and we
were round the flank, we also killed several Kn in the middle of the line.
At this point we lost control of the command and it went impetuous. The
byzantine Bd counter-attacked the monastry and their Bw killed a couple
our our Ps. A PIP shortage ment one of our LH got caught by Cv and was
destroyed.
The byantine knight command collapsed and all its Kn destroyed without
loss to Richemont! However we lost 2 Kn to their C-in-C element in the
pursuit. Their Bd had killed 4 Bw in the monastry and we had shot down
2 Bd. Both of
our support commands were know close to breaking. Wamba himself then
charged and destroyed first one blade then a second to break Phiagrius
and end the game.
