After literally being thrown from his girlfriend's apartment, ex-Olympic candidate, Hiromi (Sorimachi Takashi), decides to go to the beach. After crashing into Diamond Head, he decides to stay/work for the summer. Over the short period of time, he becomes the cheerful problem-solver, though it soon becomes clear he is not without problems of his own...

Kaito (Takenouchi Yutaka) is good at what he does. Just lately... He meets Hiromi on his way to his prescribed vacation, and though the two are different, they soon become friends. Unlike Hiromi, however, Kaito doesn't immediately warm up to the idea of working for the summer. Unfortunately, their arrival cost him his wallet. Like his new roommate/co-worker, he has his own problems to work out...

Maeda Haruko (Inamori Izumi) hasn't had it easy. When she was younger she was involved with an elite whose parents didn't approve. Following their wishes, she agreed to stay out of his life. Unfortunately, she'd already given birth to his son. Unable to provide him with the life she thought he deserved, she was forced to leave him as well. She continuously writes and waits for a letter - anything - from him. In the meantime, she is both barkeep and "mother" to Makoto.

Izumi Masaru(Mike Maki) decided long ago to abandon the traditional Japanese way of life for the carefree one of running a lodging house by the beach. He tells Hiromi and Kaito everyone has their own ocean. He's found his, being lodgehost, Makoto's grandfather, and part-time surfer/beach bum. Now they have to stop running from life and find theirs.

Izumi Makoto (Hirosue Ryoko) has lived with her grandfather at the lodge for most of her life. Her mother, unsatisfied with their somewhat laid-back way of doing things, abandoned her for Tokyo when she was six. Ten years later, a letter arrives saying she wants her back. With the help of Haruko, Hiromi, and Kaito, Makoto struggles with the indecision of returning to her mother in Tokyo.
