Ami first appeared in "Sailor Moon" when she had transferred from one school to another. She was lonely with no friends at all and other people didn't seem to like her that much because of how intelligent she was. But, Luna seemed to be suspicious about Ami and her powers and therefore decided to follow her. Usagi, following Luna, befriended Ami and tried to see if she was apart of the Dark Kingdom, which Luna had suspected at the time. After taking Ami to the arcade, Usagi picks up a disk which Ami had dropped while running late to her computer class. Getting to the closest computer Usagi puts the disk and sees that it has been infected by the Dark Kingdom. Seeing this, Luna is sure that Ami is apart of the Dark Kingdom and that Sailor Moon must stop her. Trying to get into the computer school to stop Ami, Sailor Moon disguises herself and enters the school hoping to stop the Dark Kingdom from doing any harm. Meanwhile, the teacher, actually being the Dark Kingdom monster, asks Ami to teach the class for the day in hopes of trapping her and get her energy. Usagi disguised crashes into the classroom and sees that the computer students' energy were all being sucked out. The teacher turned into a monster and the fight began. During the ambush by the Dark Kingdom monster, Luna sees the astrological sign of Mercury on her forehead and then made her into the Senshi named Mercury. With the help of Mercury, Sailor Moon defeated the monster and the truth was revealed about Ami.
It's not sure where Ami lives in the Sailor Moon world. Is it a mansion or is it an apartment. Only Naoko Takeuchi truly knows. Any true Sailor Moon fan would know that it is Ami dream to persue the same dream as her mother's, to be a doctor. Ami comes from a divorced family. Her mother is a doctor, and her father is an artist, who's only communication with her is a card on her birthday. In the TV series of Sailor Moon, Ami attends Juuban High School with her other Senshi friends, and is said to have an IQ of 300. As revealed in "Ami no Hatsuko," she seems to have an allergic reaction to love letters.
