Saotome Ranma is the title character. He's one of the best martial artists out there, and can't refuse any sort of challenge involving those two words (martial art, martial art gymnastics, martial art skating, martial art cooking....) He'll usually win, too. He's been cursed with the Spring of the Drowned Girl. Once in contact with cold water he becomes a girl and in hot he returns to a boy. As a female, he is Ranma-chan. The male form is Ranma-kun. He somehow ends up betrothed to various females (Akane, Shampoo , Ukyou) through no fault of his own, and is constantly pursued by others, both female and male (there are those guys so clueless as to not realize that Ranma-chan is the altered form of Ranma-kun).
