Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki

Jurai's Royal Court on Earth

Kagato

Not much is known about the space villain Kagato's origins.  The little that we do know is that he seems to have been a student of Washu, and he was involved somewhat in the creation of Ryoko.  What we lack in knowledge of his past is made up for by the extensive Galaxy Police records on him now.  Kagato is a scientist who "collects" artifacts from different corners of the galaxy in his search for power.  He leaves many decimated planets and civilizations in his wake as a result of his ongoing search.  Kagato is using a captured Galaxy Police battleship called the Souja in his search for power. Kagato is first seen fending off the Galaxy Police fleet's futile attempts to capture him as he is heading toward Earth in search of Ryoko.  His search leads him to the Tenchi household where Ryoko as well as the two Princesses of Jurai, Aeka and Sasami, are staying.  Tenchi tries to prevent Ryoko's capture but fails (during the aftermath of this battle he finds out he is a member of Jurai's Royal family and that his grandfather is none other than Yosho, the Juraian hero and heir to the throne).  Kagato then waits as Tenchi and the two princesses try to rescue Ryoko, hoping to test the power that Tenchi seems to possess.  He plans to capture that power, manifested in the gems of the Master Key, and combine it with Ryoko's power gems to attain his goals of ultimate power.  As Tenchi and his friends approach on board Ryo-ohki, which has combined with Aeka's Ryuho, Kagato succeeds in destroying Ryuho with Tenchi onboard.  Ryoko, upon seeing this, escapes, and joins with Aeka and Mihoshi, a member of the Galaxy Police, to attack Kagato and avenge Tenchi's apparent death. Tenchi, however, does not die as Tsunami, the first Tree of Jurai, comes and nurses him back to health.  Thus renewed, Tenchi is able to board the Souja with Tsunami's help.  Kagato has at this time begun to absorb the energy in Ryoko's gems and begins to attack Tenchi.  Tenchi, however, draws upon his newfound power and creates a Light Hawk Wing, and with it he is able to dispatch Kagato.  In end, Kagato, the cool and calculating scientist, reflects on his miscalculation as he disintegrates into nothing.
