First things first, this movie follows the OVA story line and not the Television series or Tenchi Muyo In Love (the first Tenchi Movie) This movie opens on the planet Jurai over 700 years in the past during the Jurian's Startica Festival. Here we see a young girl who appears to be collecting the life energy of young children. When she comes across a young Jurian Prince, she becomes very fond of him due to his kind and generous nature. This young prince is in fact none other than Yosho, Tenchi's Grandfather. We then see a scene where the Jurian guards attack Yosho's new found friend who we see now as a demon of the dark world. She is brutally beaten and fades away....Now flash forward 700 years or so into the future, we see the Masaki household celebrating Christmas as a loving family, unknown to them an evil presence is overseeing their actions from the dark world which she rules. She recognizes Yosho and sees Tenchi as someone who she can toy with. Then we see her teleport some of Tenchi's hair into her world where she mixes it into a strange vat of green water with her own hair. Flash forward yet again and we now start the story of The Daughter of Darkness. Its an average day at the Masaki household with everyone doing daily chores and such (except for Ryoko of course who is lazing around) Tenchi is up at a grave site paying his respects. He is walking down the steps from the shrine when a strange wind blows around him, he turns around to see a young girl sitting on the steps. He is of course curious when suddenly the girl looks at him and says "Daddy", needless to say in proper Tenchi fashion he flips out! Suddenly the girl is hanging onto Tenchi for dear life telling him how happy she is to meet her daddy. So to try and straighten things out Tenchi takes this new girl back to the house, when everyone sees this new girl they are at first excited and slightly shocked. Then suddenly she starts calling him daddy and they go threw the roof! Everyone is screaming and of course Ryoko and Ayeka are NOT very happy with this turn of events. Ryoko from the very start doesn't' like this new girl who we find out to be named Mayuka. Ryoko is convinced she is nothing more than a liar and is very upset and attacks Mayuka! They run around the room till Mayuka is finally cornered where she surprises everyone by creating what looks like the light hawk sword! Yosho comes to the rescue and diffuses the situation. Mayuka tells everyone her story which isn't much other than she doesn't know who her mother is but is absolutely sure that Tenchi is in fact her father. Washu appears and takes some of Mayuka's hair for testing. Now with everything semi settled down everyone is trying to get back to normal. After much testing Washu tells Tenchi that according to her DNA Mayuka IS in fact his daughter, Tenchi's reaction is as expected..SHOCK, only she cannot uncover the mystery of who the mother is...of course all of the girls are fighting over who Mayuka resembles and are all arguing who will be Tenchi's future bride...as always. Then when things turn for the worse as strange things begin to happen, Mayuka begins to act very strangely towards Tenchi, she has a strange look in her eyes as if she were possessed and she tries to put the moves on Tenchi! Ryoko sees this first strange phenomenon and is very upset. Suddenly Mayuka is back to herself and in complete shock since she knows nothing about what has happened. Ryoko flies off with Mayuka and the last thing we see is Ryoko dropping her while hundreds of feet in the air! When Mayuka returns to the house she is outraged and begins to fight with Ryoko, Tenchi gets between the girls trying to stop them but Ryoko keeps persisting when suddenly Tenchi slaps Ryoko! Everyone is shocked and Ryoko simply disappears with tears in her eyes. Tenchi later finds Ryoko on the roof and apologizes to her. Later when Mayuka again tries this with Tenchi she runs into the woods because she is so frightened about the things that are happening to her. Everyone goes looking for her and it is then that we see the one behind all of their troubles. Yosho recognizes the young girl from his past and tells everyone she is named Yuzuha and that she is the demon from the dark world. Yuzuha has taken Mayuka and Sasami to her world so Tenchi and Ryoko transport themselves into the dark world to rescue them. Only in this world Tenchi's powers of light are rendered completely useless leaving him powerless. Now in the dark world Tenchi and Ryoko battle to save their friends. It becomes harder and harder as they discover Yuzuha can do anything she wants to do in this world. Yuzuha tells them that they are only here for her entertainment and that she will play with them for as long as she wants. She even sends Mayuka who has been transformed into a half demon to do battle with them. Back in the real world Ayeka has gone to the Tree of Light and is praying for it to help her friends. In the dark world Tenchi is literally being beaten to death by Mayuka, Sasami yells to Mayuka trying to get her to remember that they are her family and that they love her very much. Suddenly Mayuka sees flashes of the past and remembers everything. Yuzuha is enraged and tries to erase her memory but Mayuka attacks her. Now even more upset, Yuzuha shoots a beam of light at Mayuka who is now dying. Mayuka tells everyone that she loves them before she fades away and all that is left is a small jewel that was embedded in her chest. Then Yuzuha transforms into a huge demon, Ryoko grabs Tenchi and Sasami and tries to flee but they are captured by Yuzuha. When all seems lost suddenly Ayeka appears with a branch from the tree of light. She throws it to Tenchi who is instantly healed and now wearing his Juraian robes and wielding the Light Hawk sword. He runs towards Yuzuha and while swinging what will be the fatal blow suddenly sees Yuzuha's memories. He sees the past that she shared with Yosho and discovers that Yuzuha was in love with Yosho! Finishing his blow Yuzuha is destroyed in a brilliant white light. When the light subsides we see everyone back in their own world rejoicing over being back. Then however they are all saddened by the loss of Mayuka. Tenchi still has the small jewel which was embedded in her chest as a reminder when Washu asks everyone an important question. She says that she can bring Mayuka back as long as it is all right with everyone. They all begin to smile and then look to Ryoko to see her reaction, Ryoko turns her head and then begins to smile, we see a flashback to the day that Ryoko dropped Mayuka, here we see the rest of what happened which shows Ryoko saving Mayka right before she hits the ground, back to the present Ryoko says she would like to see Mayuka again. Here the ending credits roll with pictures appearing of Washu regenerating Mayuka, by the end of the credits we see everyone taking care of the newly born baby Mayuka.
