Cannonball Run; 1980 US

Now this is a hard-to-watch movie. It is a road-action film about illegar race from coast to coast and 'based on' real-life Cannonball Sea to Shining Sea race, which starts in Connectucuti and ends in California. Cannonball is also a sort of follow-up to succesfull, violent and sadistic race movie Death Race 2000, uncut release very hard to find, banned in many countries.

Jackie Chan has a really small part and most propably you don't pay much attention to him unless you know him already. And Jackie sits most of his screen time in a car with Michael Hui (very popular comedy actor in Hong Kong). Both Jackie and michael are supposed to be Japanese! altough they speak Chinese. During making of Canonball stuntwoman Heidi von Beltz injured very seriously in a car crash when a stunt which was supposed to be easy went horribly wrong. First time it did work fine but on second take she was driving faster and car failed to turn and she crashed the van.

Cannonball was very popular through the World, including US, maybe because of the main stars like Burt Reynolds and Dean Martin and so they really made a sequel. However this foilm may be where Jackie got the idea to show outtakes at the end of his films.

Some rumors say that Jackie had to fly through the country to appear on the Today show but then finds out that 'his English is not good enough for interview'. So he was told to demonstrate some kung fu instead. Also Jackie told to journalist Barrie Pattison that there was some arguements about if he should do a movie or a TV series. If he makes a TV series it makes him famous but according to others it makes him a TV star. This all made Jackie want to go back home Hong Kong.
