About Vasantham 2000

Vasantham, which means spring, or signifies a new beginning, has been a NUS Indian Cultural Society (ICS) tradition for the past 12 years. It is usually a bi-annual event, which aims to create awareness about Indian culture amongst the student population and general public. Vasantham, after a hiatus of 5 years, is making a comeback in the new millinneum.

This year, Vasantham 2000, will be held at the World Trade Centre Auditorium. It has been slated to take place on the evenings of the 28th and 29th of July 2000. The programme will consist of an adapted play in English, interspersed with songs and dances. The ICS aspire, in this production, not just to entertain, but also to raise important questions about the issues that face Singaporean youth today. Thus, we hope not just to make a statement, but also a significant contribution to the arts scene in Singapore.

An unprecedented first in Vasantham 2000 is that 70% of all profits will go to our selected charity, the Down Syndrome Association (Singapore) (DSA). They are a self-funding, non-profit organistion formally established only in 1996. They provide support to families of children with Down Syndrome and educate the public about Down Syndrome. The ICS hopes to make a contribution to the DSA's effort to construct an integrated play school and also in the day-to-day running of the Association.

Don't miss it.
