As the gossip that Akira has a younger sister travels around the school, it changes into a rumor that Midori is pregnant with his child.

It's Christmas Eve day, the last day of school before winter vacation. Midori thinks she won't be able to stand two weeks without seeing Akira.

Midori goes to Akira's apartment with a cake and a rose for him on Christmas Eve.
Meanwhile, Akira is working in a Santa Claus suit, selling Christmas Cakes on the street. He meets Mamirin, all dolled up for an evening out with her family. Akira spots Takigawa Man passing by, but keeps it from Mamirin when he notices that Takigawa Man is with a girl. Akira sells a little girl a cake for 500 yen instead of the 2000 yen it costs. He remembers his mother baking a chocolate cake for his father.

After work, Akira calls Midori's house and, hearing that she isn't home, goes home himself, only to find her waiting outside his door. She rushes into his arms and admits she just wanted to see him. They have their first kiss.

On New Year's Day, Midori meets Akira and Hiroko for the Hatsumode, the first shrine visit of the year. They run into Tonko and Kayo, and Akira deadpans that Hiroko is their child.

Back at school, Akira invites Midori to go shopping for a birthday present for Hiroko with him. Her delight is undermined by her realization that the present she found in his bag in September was for a different Hiroko. Midori picks out a stuffed dinosaur that looks like Akira, and Akira picks out a stuffed devil that looks like Midori. At the birthday party at Akira's apartment, Hiroko laughs and says the toys look just like them. While they're playing a board game, Midori finds a cat toy next to the TV. She pretends not to know anything about it as Hiroko explains that Akira adopted a stray cat named Milk, but he had to give it away because it was against the rules of his apartment building. Akira and Hiroko fall asleep under the kotatsu, and Midori, feeling affection for both of them, decides to put the mysterious September birthday present out of her mind.

The Student Body Council meets to plan the welcoming assembly for the new first-year students in April. Midori's homeroom, predictably, is going to put on a karaoke show. Tonko and Kayo jokingly suggest that the student body council put on a play with Midori as the princess and Akira as the prince, but that gives Midori an idea...

Midori presents her idea to the Student Body Council--it's a parody of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," starring Mamirin as the princess, Takigawa Man as the prince, Bunta as the "giant the size of seven dwarfs," Akira as the wicked real-estate developer, and Midori as the devil and the angel. Akira and Mamirin are furious at the idea, but Bunta and Takigawa Man realize that it's funny.

Midori gives Akira a chocolate cake for Valentine's Day. He's also had a lot of chocolates slipped into his bag anonymously, but after Midori is gone, he looks at one labeled "To Akira, From Hiroko." He flings it at the trash can.

The Student Body Council rehearses their play, but Mamirin just can't do the kiss scene. She says she'll do it for the real performance, but won't practice it.

Midori goes with Maki-chan after school to work on plans for the new art club. She wonders how Maki-chan knows that Akira has all sorts of different jobs. She notices that Maki-chan's house is near Akira's apartment. And then a white cat runs out and Maki-chan calls, "Milk!"

Midori and Mamirin go to rent the costumes for their skit. Mamirin asks Midori if she's ever been too nervous to sleep at night.

Akira is absent from school, supposedly with a cold. Midori insists he must really be sick, but the others make a bet with her that he's only faking, and they all go to his apartment to find out. He really is sick. Midori stays behind to take care of him.

It's the first day of school for the incoming first-year class. Midori is still worried about Akira and Maki-chan's relationship, but she convinces herself everything is all right when Maki-chan tells her she has a special friend studying art in Paris.

Midori and her friends meet a beautiful girl named Shino and her friend Mako in the corridor. Later, Shino and Mako meet Mamirin, and it transpires that Shino went to junior high school with Mamirin and Takigawa Man.

Before the play, Mamirin locks herself in the bathroom. Midori climbs up on the partition to get her to come out. They put on the play successfully, but Shino is none too happy with it.

Akira and Maki-chan are still exchanging strange glances, and Midori is still worried.

A Sunday. Midori and Akira go on a date to an amusement park. They call up Mamirin, who's at home studying, and tease her.

Mamirin decides to go for a walk to the bookstore. By chance, she meets Takigawa Man there. She tells him he shouldn't flirt with other girls because it's bad for his girlfriend.

Takigawa Man is hanging out with Shino at her house. Shino is upset, certain Mamirin is trying to take Takigawa away from her. Takigawa scolds her, and she apologizes for being jealous.

Back at the amusement park, Midori and Akira go on the Ferris Wheel. They finally talk frankly about Maki-chan. Akira tells Midori that the friend Maki-chan is visiting in Paris is her boyfriend. They finally settle things as the ride comes to an end--but they had forgotten about the marble chocolate candies Midori had spilled all over the floor. Akira gives the attendant two more tickets, and they go around again, picking up the candies. They kiss, and Akira says, "Tastes like marble chocolate." As they kiss again, Midori dumps the candies onto the floor again.
