Chapter 41 - The Time of Confrontation
Garten tries to kill Kuju, but Miyuki sacrifices herself to save him,
Mai unable to save her. Mai pursues Garten through the house, wanting
only to protect her father, but Garten insists that they must fight.
Mai destroys the house, with Garten inside. Garten's last cry is
that Mai is the chosen.
Chapter 42 - After the Battle
The explosion has snapped Kuju back to awareness, and he greets Mai with open arms. Kaieda is carried into the grounds by Tsukiro. Kuju isn't too happy to see him until Mai explains that he has been protecting her. Kuju is surprised to learn that two months have passed since his accident, but is also relieved, saying that the Wisdom Alliance's plan is still only in its initial stage. He reveals that Miyuki was a daughter of the Takatsumayama shrine to the north of Tokagushi, and had protected the Kujus because she was ordered to by her father. Mai has a vision of Maki and Miyuki in the sky. Kaieda declares that now that the Wisdom Alliance know the extent of Mai's powers, the battle has only just begun.
At the Wisdom Alliance headquarters in Switzerland, Ryu has come to
a decision. Takeing with him Yuwon from Mongolia, Hong from Vietnam
and Perry from the United States, Ryu heads to Tokyo himself, determined
to settle the matter.
Chapter 43 - Ryu's Arrival
At school, Yumiko, Rie and Mai are wondering about a new student. His name is Grall Hong. The class thinks he's a weirdo. He's given a seat next to Mai.
Tsukiro is keeping watch outside the Kuju's residence. Madarao is looking after Ron, who is covered in bandages again. In another room, Kuju has revealed the Wisdom Alliance's plan to Kaieda. The Wisdom Alliance has set in motion a plan to start a full-scale nuclear war at 9:09:09am on September 1999, annihilating the human race in 250 days. The Wisdom Alliance have been manipulating events for the past century to achieve this. Mineo interrupts to serve drinks, and Madarao heads off to pick up Mai from school. Kuju continues to explain that the Wisdom Alliance are forming a kind of Ark, gathering children with psycho-kinetic points measuring above eight. The children were to be sheltered from the destruction of humanity in the mountains, and used to create a new, super race after the war. Mai is supposed to lead the children.
Walking home from school, Mai, Yumiko and Rie see Hong carrying the bags of several other boys. Yumiko gets angry at them for picking on him, but discovers that Hong had offered to carry the bags. Hong watches Mai closely as the girls leave.
At Tokyo International Airport, Ryu arrives with Yuwon.
Chapter 44 - Ryu's Plan
David Perry arrives late at Ryu's hotel room. Yuwon is annoyed because Perry wouldn't answer him telepathically until he entered the room. Ryu tells him that he must keep in touch with Yuwon at all times. Yuwon will be staying by Ryu's side. Perry is ordered to eliminate Kaieda, and agrees readily.
Mai's class are doing gym. Hong can't do the exercise, and is ordered to practice it for the next class. The other guys 'help' out...
Kuju and Mineo see Madarao off at the train station. He's going to bury Miyuki near Maki.
Perry arrives at Kaieda's building just as Kaieda is swearing he will
stop the Alliance. Floating next to Kaieda's window, Perry informs
Yuwon that Kaidea will soon be dead.
Chapter 45 - The Assault Begins
Perry is amused when Tsukiro knocks Kaieda out of the way, but his amusement
turns to awe a he blasts Tsukiro's arm, setting him ablaze. Tsukiro
simply stands glaring out the window at him. Security arrives, and
Perry says they're like ants - easy to kill, but too many all at
once. Tsukiro is the first man to have survived his attack, and Perry
intends to enjoy their next confrontation. He leaves, and the security
men hose Tsukiro down. Yuwon reports Perry's failure and his intention
to pursue the matter to Ryu. Ryu wants to know how Mai is doing.
Hong's busy reading comics when Yuwon contacts him, but tells Yuwon that
he's getting along nicely with Mai. Ryu is pleased. Mai noticed
the telepathic communication, but was unable to make it out. She
comes across Hong and invites him to walk home with her. Hong is
very interested when he finds out Mai has a dog - he loves dogs.
Ron growls when he sees Hong.
Chapter 46 - Danger Approaching
Mai calms Ron down. Hong says he's an extremely smart puppy.
Kuju reports back for work - and discovers that Kaieda is the major stockholder of the company he works for. Morimoto informs him of Ryu's arrival in Japan - with three boys, Mai's age. Kuju realizes that Ryu intends to use the boys to capture Mai.
Kaieda orders his men to find the boy who attacked him - fast!
Ryu orders Yuwon to tell Hong to kill Mai. Hong is running through
the park with Ron and Mai. Ron turns to growl at him when the order
is given.
Chapter 47 - When A Devil Whispers
Kuju is about to head out to a lunch appointment with someone who informed him that he desperately needed to talk to him about Mai when Morimoto informs him that the man was Ryu. At the restaurant, Yuwon eats while Ryu and Kuju talk. Ryu declares that they both have Mai's best interests at heart; Kuju tells him he doesn't have the right to determine Mai's future.
At the park, Mai calms Ron down and tells Hong how he can sense danger to Mai. Ryu wants to wipe out the planet's problems - such as nuclear weapons and pollution - by wiping out man. He believes the Wisdom Alliance has the right to do so. The destruction of the planet will be carried out. Ryu offers Kuju a way for his daughter to survive. The offer stands for twelve hours. Kuju storms out of the restaurant.
Mai waves goodbye to Hong at the gate.
Kuju looks in on his sleeping daughter, believing that it is his duty
as a father to make sure she survives - no matter what.
Chapter 48 - The Assassination Order
Yumiko and Rie come to pick Mai up for school. Kuju has ten minutes before he must give Ryu his answer. Watching them leave, he realizes that other girls deserve to live as well as Mai, and vows to stop the Wisdom Alliance.
Ryu isn't pleased about Kuju's lack of response, and orders Yuwon to join forces with Perry until Kaieda is killed. Then they are to eliminate Mai and her father. Yuwon plans on having Hong kill Mai, as she trusts him.
Morimoto introduces Intetsu to Kuju.
Perry and Yuwon are arguing. Perry won't follow Yuwon's orders.
Perry heads to where Kaieda is, while Yuwon starts trashing the building
from the basement up. Perry succeeds in blasting a hole through Kaieda's
chest.
Chapter 49 - Kaieda and Tsukiro
Tsukiro rushes to Kaieda's side, growling at Perry, who doesn't want to fight him. He blasts the security people instead. Kaieda is still alive. Perry tries to kill him, but Tsukiro blocks him and attacks. Yuwon blasts Tsukiro to get him away from Perry. Perry shouts for him to stop, but it's too late. Perry apologises to Tsukiro, saying that he didn't want him to get hurt - he'd hoped they might be friends. Kaieda crawls over to Tsukiro, holding him as he did when he was a child. He asks forgiveness for sending him to America and letting him participate in the experiment that resulted in his current body, turning a young genius into a child-like monster. He asks his son to forgive his stupid father. They lie cuddled together in a pool of blood as the building burn down around them.
Mineo rushes to inform Kuju of Kaieda's death.
The news is also brought to Ryu by his men.
Flying away from Kaieda's building, Perry won't forgive Yuwon for killing Tsukiro, and declares he'll blow Mai away. They land beside Kuju, and blast down a telegraph pole behind him as a warning. They escort him home.
Hong is following Mai, Yumiko and Rie as they walk home.
Ron growls at Perry from Mineo's arms. Yuwon raids the Kuju's
fridge.
Chapter 50 - The Challenge of the Psychic Boys
Mai returns home, and is followed in by Hong. She is startled
to find the boys there, but Kuju tells her to cooperate as there is Mineo
to consider. Hong is ordered to watch Mineo and Kuju while the other
two boys go with Mai to Ryu. Intetsu rides his motorcycle straight
at the car with Mai in it. The car crashes, and Mai climbs out of
the wreckage. On his motorbike, Intetsu informs Mai that her father
and Mineo are both safe. The boys are flying after Mai. Intetsu
manages to avoid a few blasts, but can't avoid them for long. Mai
thanks him, asks him to look after her father and Mineo, and takes to the
skies. Intetsu's rather surprised. Perry and Yuwon chase Mai
through the city, up against the side of a skyscraper. Mai flies
upwards, only to find Hong on the roof.
