DATA: Doctor Gendo Ikari is a 48 year old man who is the Supreme Comander of NERV. He is respected for his abilities, but is not well liked by his co-workers. He is a widower and has one son, Shinji Ikari, pilot of EVA unit 01.

In 1999, Gendo Rokubungi met Professor Fuyutsuki(NERV second in command) at Kyoto University. Professor Fuyutsuki was his studen advisor and bailed him out of jail when he was involved in a fight. Gendo also met Yui Ikari, and became involved with her. He left Kyoto to join her in her work for Seele.

Gendo married Yui Ikari in 2000 and changed his sir name to match hers.Presumately it was to ensure his association with the EVA project. Soon after words their son Shinji was born.

Gendo was also a member of the Katsuragi Expidition, and had left for Tokyo two days before the Second Impact.

In 2001, Gendo Ikari recruted Professor Fuyutsuki to become part of the Gehrin on behalf of Yui Ikari. This was done primarily to prevent the professor from publishing the truth about the second Impact. The three of them worked on the Evangelion project.

In 2004, Yui Ikari apparently died during the test run of the EVA unit.

When Seele disbanded the Gehrin, and reformed the orginization into NERV, Gendo was placed incharge of NERV due to his work on the EVA project and the Instrumentality Project.

Gendo Ikari lives alone. He is the guardian of Rei Ayanami.
