This series started out as a video game
in Japan. It was released in 1995, around June. Like many other popular anime
series, it started a huge fad in Japan. A TV series came out for it too. Pokémon is
short for pocket monsters. When it came to the US, it was shortened to Pokémon.
In the game, your objective is to catch all 150 Pokémon. By and by, you discover different pokémon, and try to catch them. If you are able to catch it with a Pokéball, then it becomes faithful to you. You can only carry six Pokémon on you, and the rest are transported to computers that are in every Pokémon Center. I have heard that the game is very fun, and it had just come out in America. There are actually three original versions: Red, Blue, and Green, but only Red and Blue have been taken to America. Green had a boring reputation in Japan, so was not taken to America. Gold and Silver are also going to come later.
These are the Red and Blue versions of Pokémon, for Gameboy.
The TV show has also been brought to America, mostly on channel UPN. I have been watching as much as I can, so I'm very addicted. :p It's VERYYY good, and if you haven't watched it, I recommend giving it a chance. ^^ The main character in it is Ash Catchem, a 10-year-old boy who dreams of becoming a world's best Pokémon trainer. As the series goes along, he catches more Pokémon.
