Kunzite stood on the very top of Tokyo Tower, arms crossed and eyes narrowed as the wind whipped his cloak and hair back and chilling his body through the sturdy uniform he wore. The city laid out before him, the lights glittering merrily in the night gloom, the thin voices of car horns and excited people reaching his ears. There was something compelling about the sight, something that made him wonder what was worse: staying locked up in the dank dark of the Dark Kingdom or coming to earth and be subjected by its poisonous thoughts? He shook his head, pale silk-fine strands catching in his collar and contrasting with his dark skin. No, most humans thought and acted a lot like the youma, always reaching out and grasping at fleeting power over others. But unlike the youma, humans pretend to be different... or did they? Some were certainly like that but he had seen others who were different, less caring of riches than they were of those around them. Maybe there was something he was missing here... With a harsh laugh at the troublesome thought, he grabbed the edge of his cloak and spun around before disappearing back into the Dark Kingdom for his final preparations. Tomorrow, he was going to assume the appearance of a human and play a charade, just to find answers for his questions. But first, he had to kick his latest lover out of his rooms than make sure the dolt would keep the trainees in line while Kunzite played hooky. Wouldn't do at all if Beryl found out about this. Wouldn't do at all.
Early the next day, Kitsune Shirubaan reported to the Principal's office. Immaculately groomed in a light tan suit with perfectly creased lines in the legs, the blonde haired, blue-eyed young man brushed a bit of dust off the tip of his leather patent shoes and entertained thoughts of slow torture as the Principal wandered through a welcoming speech. Finally coming to the point after several weary minutes, he presented Kitsune a meaty hand to shake before standing, squeezing his bulk around his desk and leading the way towards what would soon be Ktisune's classroom.
Zoisite slid around one of the corners at the school, scrambling to stay on his feet. Nephrite really had in for him with his continued insistence that he attend this place of tedious torture. It had been an interesting first few days when he'd actually driven one of the teachers insane with illusions that only the poor man could see. Unfortunately, Nephrite had figured that out and had grounded him for the next week. He'd be lucky if he ever saw the Ferrari again, much less get to drive it. After getting the morning lecture of 'touch the car and die a horrible death', he'd made it to school... late as usual. If he'd ever made it on time, it would be a miracle in itself. The demons and youma would be wearing ice skates and having a snowball fight on that day. Snagging the door frame and regaining his footing, Zoisite slipped through the open door just as he heard the name Sanjouin Zachery called. "Yes?" he asked in his most honeyed voice, smiling cheerfully as his angelic features took on an expression of utmost innocence. Then it hit him... not only was the principal staring down at him, but the new teacher as well. *Lovely... I'm never going to hear the end of this from Nephrite.* he thought, trying to find a way to wriggle out of this one.
Kitsune managed to look attentive as the principal dressed down an unfortunately tardy student, but the man's loud claims of "wait 'til your brother hears this latest list of evils" was wearing thin. Imitating the principal's features in a less-than-flattering way, Kitsune said quietly, "Give him a break. At least he's trying to get to school and not staying at home playing video games or hanging out with deliquints. You're just making him more late with lecturing him." The principal turned suddenly, making Kitsune try to cover his actions without looking like he was doing so, and asked, "What do you know about punctuality?"
A faint grin crossed Zoisite's lips at the defense from the other man lurking behind the teacher. Sidling to the side, he peeked up at the new student teacher and blinked. Tall, handsome, with the oddest eyes he'd ever seen. Dropping his gaze from the other man's, he stared at the floor, waiting for them to either let him go and start class or punish him. Kitsune's face stayed in his mind, something nagging about him. Had someone mentioned the name Jadeite to him, Zoisite would have chuckled. The king of illusions very rarely came to the Earth Realm. Had they said Kunzite, then Zoisite would have turned white and ill looking. He'd never seen the famous 'Ice King', but stories ran rampant over the Dark Kingdom about his powers and inventive ways of dealing with problems. To the Dark Kingdom warriors, save Nephrite, Kunzite was someone to be feared. Nephrite, being the second of the four and closest to Kunzite, probably didn't fear the elder the way Zoisite did... with them it was most likely two wolves trying to take leadership of the pack from one another. Coughing faintly, he glanced up at the teacher and principal, "Gomen nasai, but can I take my seat now?"
"Go on, sit," Kitsune said, waving a hand. The principal turned nearly purple with rage. "No, he..." the man started to say, then he locked eyes with Kitsune. his protests died and he managed a faint, "I guess it's okay, for once.." before fleeing the room. Outside, he mopped his face and hoped that Kitsune wouldn't call his gang-buddies in. The man's folder said he was reformed, but the principal wouldn't believe THAT until he saw it. Kitsune looked over the room with the quieting students and couldn't help but grin. His first real job! He wandered to the front of the room, trying to be nonchalant. He set his book down on the teacher's desk and said to the room, "Good morning, class. For the next few months, I'll have the honor of teaching this great country's history to you."
Zoisite slunk into his chair trying to control the grin that wanted to overtake his face. Never had he seen the principal *that* upset, especially after all his threats to tell 'Coach Sanjouin' this or that little thing. He spent most of his time scrubbing out forgotten corners of the Dark Kingdom or filing away one of Nephrite's hundred or so thousand books because of the principal. Folding his legs, he dragged his history book from out of his pack and cracked it open on his desktop. It might be the teacher's first day, but he'd gotten on the little sakura's good side. This might be the one class he actually didn't get into trouble in. After the last bell Couch Sanjouin received a note from the principle. "Not again!" he groaned. "I swear that boy has about as much discipline in his left toe than that of a two year old." he muttered and walked the halls for his turn of hall monitor. Zoisite grinned faintly as the final bell of the day rang. Getting out of this torture chamber called school was always a good thing. Giving one last glance to Kitsune-sensi, he slid from his seat and peeked out the door only to discover Nephrite stalking the halls like a nightmare feline. Backing up, he shut the door quickly, trying to think of an alternate escape route. The hallway was a death sentence. One had never truly experienced boring until they had to sit through one of the star king's lectures. Nibbling on his lip, he eyed the windows, relatively sure he could escape that way. Teleportation was out of the question with the teacher still about.
Kitsune tidied his desk for the third time, still feeling a little smug about his first teaching lesson. Humans were a lot like youma in many ways, but at least he didn't have to resort to pounding information into human heads with a thick plank like he did to student youma. That, he had always thought, was the main reason why youma always failed when facing the so-called protectors of Earth. They were just too damn stupid to use things to their advantage.. Shaking himself out of his musings, he noticed that his one student- Sanjouin Zachery was it?- looking very worried about something, edge closer to the window. Having seen the kid climb in the window, Kitsune was not afraid that he was going to hurt himself from climbing down, but Kitsune was curious at to what would make a kid do that. He cleared his throat and asked, "Anything the matter? And can I help you with it?"
"Gomen Kitsune-sensai.." he stuttered out, slinking next to the open window. Peering up at his teacher, his eyes flicked nervously to the door. Nephrite already looked like he was in a bad mood. The last thing he needed was to find out what Zoisite had been into this evening. With a nervous bite to his lower lip, his frosted emerald gaze rested once more on Kunzite's, "Neph..umm.. my brother, Coach Sanjouin, is coming, and I just know the principal told him about me being late! He's going to ground me for at least another week..." pausing in his hastily spoken words, Zoisite frowned to himself, not quite sure of why he was bothering to explain all of this to a total stranger.
Couch Sanjouin continued to walk the halls. *Beryl wanted us to start on the next phase of the plan..but with Zoisite acting like a little lost puppy dog its going to be harder than I thought. I'll give him a week, if he don't shape up..I'll make him shape up." he thought. A young girl tugged on his shirt. "Oh, Couch Sanjounin..will you help us. Our Cheer leading couch is absent today and need help in practice." she said with dreamy eyes. Behind her 8 other girls nodded frantically.
A large black-haired head slammed into a nearby locker as the older teenager dropped to the ground. Jeremy pivoted in his school uniform, his gloved hand halting the fist that was crashing towards his face. He squeezed the fist until its bones were close to breaking and then jerked downward, sending him crashing to the floor. He sighed, ever since he had got to Juuban he had made it a point not to tolerate school bullies and help defend the students unable to defend themselves. Now though that stand was starting to get the more notorious, and tougher students to come after him directly, now it was uncommon if he didn't get in at least one if not three or four fights a week. Slowly he sighed and walked to the Principal's office, knowing the lecture that was to follow and knowing he was dangerously close to be suspended.
Minako headed for the exit of the school, quirking her brow at the boy who laid crumpled on the ground. Shrugging, she left the building, recounting mentally all the homework she had to do for tomorrow.
"I see," Kitsune replied, folding his hands in front of him, his face bland but for a slight smile. Kitsune had heard the boy's near slip up by almost saying Coach Sanjouin's real name. Like all other Dark Kingdom personnel, he knew that the Star King was using the name of an former would-be Dark Kingdom agent. So if that was the case, then... "This brother of yours is extremely strict about what he expects of you, isn't he? I suppose being on time for school is one of them. Maybe if he can't find you, he won't be able to punish you, and maybe by the time he does find you, he would loose an edge to his temper and be more reasonable."
Zoisite nodded in quick agreement, shifting on his feet like a nervous cat. Flicking his jaden gaze between the window that he had so recently been thinking of escaping out of and back to his teacher. At least Kitsune wasn't like the others that seemed to delight in informing Nephrite of every little thing he did against the rules. Tilting his head curiously up at Kitsune, a wary expression settled on his nearly feminine features, "How would you suggest getting out then? And just why are you helping me?"
Dunican walked down the hall with his school bag in hand. He had just talked to Minako. He would meet her later on tonight after dinner. Knowing they were both in the same classes and they both had the same amount of homework. Dunican wasn't worried about not getting it done. He always did his homework on time. Stepping out of the school he looked around.
Kitsune chuckled at that. "You could say that you remind me of myself at your age, always getting into trouble for trying too hard to please a stubborn relative. It was never really my fault that stuff happened, but she never believed it so.." he shrugged, nodding at Zachery a little. "Now about escaping notice, you can slip out the way you came in, but that has its own little problems. You can hide out in this room for a while longer, pretending that you have detention or something, and since he has to coach a couple teams after school, he probably will get too busy to come looking for you. And once he gets ingrossed in his work you can slip off to a friend's place.. you do have somewhere else to go, don't you?"
Watching the man with the same steady gaze, Zoisite nibbled nervously at his lower lip, drawing a droplet of pinkish crimson blood. A sharp scent of copper and cherries drew his attention as he swiped the back of his sleeve across them, turning his gaze back to the corridor. Most mortals tended to react badly to odd individuals, although he at least didn't have Nephrite's problems of possessing dark green blood. Nodding in thought with Kitsune's words, a bitter smile spread across his lips, "Me? Friends? Not likely. I was just planning on heading home or getting something to eat since neither of us can cook. You sure you don't mine me staying here?" Suspicion continued to be directed from the little sakura towards Kitsune... Zoisite just wasn't the most the most trusting of people. Studying the other man's eyes, his thoughts slid into a pleasant mood, wondering though at the depths of icy outer calm.
Kitsune smiled thinly. "I wouldn't be offering if I did though I'm not surprised that you have no friends. Somehow that's always the case when one is smarter or different from the rest of the class."
Edging around the door frame to peer out at Nephrite standing in the hallway chattering with the cheerleader types, Zoisite sighed mentally. Why couldn't he just go away? Wrinkling his nose in distaste at the star king before glancing back up to Kitsune. "You have no idea how different I am..." he murmured before peering back out.
"Nor do you," Kitsune muttered, then shook his head. Now wasn't the time to reveal himself to the other Dark Kingdom warriors. After all, he was suppose to be else where... "Is there anything else I can help you with?"
Shaking his head quickly, even Zoisite felt the urge to leave with his teacher's gaze on him. Sketching a sort bow, he snagged his backpack with one hand, slipping it over his shoulder quietly. Peeking one last time at Nephrite and his gaggle of females, he crept quietly out the door and into the corridor. Perhaps females could have a use if they kept the King of the Stars distracted long enough for him to make good his escape.
Kitsune kept the pleasant helpful look on his face until the student was concentrating on getting out behind the coach's back. Then a cold, calculating look appeared on his face and he chuckled slightly. From what he was seeing, he would have no trouble at all to keep the others from gaining up on him. But there was something about the youngest one that made him wonder for a moment about what ifs.... Shaking himself out of speculation, he slowly got to his feet, checked to make sure everyone was busy, then morphed back into his true form with a glad sigh. He then jumped out of the window and levitated to the rooftop to look down at the students running here and there. A wind picked up on his command, causing trees to groan and people to cling to each other for support.
Jeremy stepped out of the school, having had another talk with the principal and glanced about as the wind picked up. He stood alone and felt the wind ripple across his scarred face, *Now what?*
Escaping out the front door of the school, Zoisite sighed in relief. Another day, another escape from the Reign of Nephrite. Reaching the candy apple red Ferrari of his 'brother', an impish grin crossed his features. It seemed only fair in his opinion. Digging through his pockets for his keys, he was caught off guard by the sudden change in the winds. Frowning puzzledly, he tossed his backpack into the vehicle, his gaze pulled to the skies above them. Brushing the strands of hair from his pale face as the gusts tore at them, he shook his head slowly, not understanding this in the least.
Kunzite let the winds build up for a moment then sent a surge of power to the ground. Some people dropped as the energy was ripped out of them, spiraling up to gather into a ball in his hand. This was both a demonstration and a summons, a demonstration of his power, a summons of the two other kings of the Dark Kingdom.
Nephrite stopped walking. *What was that? That power..so strong.* he thought and looked to the girls. "Sorry ladies, but something just came up. I forgot a meeting I have to attend." he said and raced down the hall towards the energy source.
Zoisite dropped to the ground, one hand grasping the rear spoiler of the Ferrari. That hadn't been expected. Climbing weakly to his feet, he simply leaned against the car for the moment, tracing the lines of energy back to their source. Someone... was in for a nasty surprise from a very angry Zoisite. He doubted Nephrite would have tried something like this. Even the star king wouldn't endanger his lair of the school by an outward attack... nor did he believe the other man capable of the deception needed to pull it off. Pulling what strength he had, Zoisite vanished in a spray of swirling petals to reappear atop the school itself. Closing his eyes to orient more on the drainer. Clasping his hands together into loose fists, razor sharp shards of ice crystal sprung from them like a pair of cleverly concealed switchblades. Opening his eyes, they took on the deep green more at home on an exotic jungle cat stalking its prey. Not recognizing Kunzite without his Earthen guise of a teacher, the sakura launched himself towards the man. Light glinted like quicksilver off of the sharp edge of his twin blades as he brought them down towards the king with a shout of, "Zoi!"
Kunzite turned nonchalantly, sweeping an arm out to catch Zoisite across his middle and throw him back like a baseball hit by a bat. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the ball of gathered energy to float above his head as he stalked over to Zoisite and grabbed him by the hair to get a good look at his face, even though he had a good guess which one of the others had just tried to kill him. Kunzite's face did not betray any hint of emotion as he said, "So you're the one who is to replace poor late Jadeite, hmm? Your speed and desire seems to be well placed but your skills are sloppy and your control is non-existant. Now don't force me to hurt you as long as it takes for you two to make your reports. I don't want to be on this miserable rock any longer than nesescary. Understand?"
Surprise seized Zoisite as he found himself sailing backwards. Impacting with the hard ground, he wheezed for breath, the ice king's strike across his middle having emptied all the air out of his lungs. An enraged squeak was all he could manage as Kunzite grasped the ponytail of hair, his fingers roughly pulling at the strands. Lips that could curve into the sweetest of smiles, pulled back from his milk white teeth in a silent growl, still hissing for breath as his acidic green gaze was forced up to Kunzite's. Digging his thin, sharp nails into the ground under him, Zoisite forced an answer out despite his pain and fury, "Yes... I understand."
"Wise of you," Kunzite murmured, gently freeing Zoisite's hair to grab him by the arm and pull him to his feet. He pulled out a handkerchief and pressed it into one of his hands. "Now wipe your face off and get control of yourself. This attack has been coordinated with several others across this city, so no one will think that this school has been picked out from any others. And don't try to attack me again. You won't like what I would do to you."
Snatching the cloth of Kunzite's hands, Zoisite carefully cleaned his pale flesh with an almost obsessive air, peering into a nearby water puddle to ensure that not a mote of dirt remained on his features. Practicing a few smiles as he fluffed his hair, he tucked the handkerchief away into his uniform. With a growl, he brushed some of the dirt that wasn't ground into the steel gray material and stalked slowly to Kunzite's side. Crossing his slender arms across his chest, Zoisite stood silently beside Kunzite, just barely below the other man's shoulder. Glancing up towards the figure of the approaching Nephrite, a scowl twisted his lips. Lovely... not only did he look like a puppy that had gotten slapped through the mud, but now Nephrite was here. At least the other king hadn't gotten to see Kunzite toss him about. Tilting his eyes up to the other man, Zoisite asked softly, "What are we doing here any ways? Trying to see how many Senshi we can have attack at once?"
Nephrite ran up, seeing Zoisite on the ground brought anger to his eyes. Seeing the man who did it ticked him off even more. It wasn't a senshi, which made him even more pissed off. "Who the Hell do you think you are?" he asked powering up an attack, just in case the man gave the wrong answer.
Kunzite folded his arms across his chest and said in cold even tones, "Nice to meet you too, Nephrite. I don't suppose you've remembered me from the last time we've meet, seeing how busy you are in teaching Zoisite the ways of being a warrior. No?" he shook his head as if sadden by lack of recognition. "I am Kunzite, and what I'm doing is obvious. I'm looking for you two."
At seeing the two gathering their abilities for what could be a rather spectacular blaze of attacks, Zoisite began edging back a few steps. Rubbing a hand to the base of his ponytail in mute hurt over not just being thrown about like a rag doll but having his beloved hair messed up as well, he did have to wonder at Nephrite's manner. Never before had the star king come to his defense... or anyone's for that matter. Ordinarily, Nephrite would have simply let Kunzite beat him to death rather than step in. Blinking a few times at that surprising thought, Zoisite continued to try to slink away from the two titans before they went head to head.
Kunzite began tapping his foot on the hard concert surface, impatience marking his face as the star king just stood there. "What did you think I was doing and who did you think I was? As you can see, I am no girl in a sailor fuku nor am I one of their tin-plated boyfriends."
Zoisite blinked, having to make sure he heard that right. A disbelieving look was cast at Nephrite as the sakura folded his thin arms across his chest. Arching a brow, a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Boyfriends?"
Nephrite scowled. "All I knew was someone was invading MY area. An Area that the Queen assigned to me. What's wrong, we haven't gathered enough energy for her high and mightiness yet?" he asked with a sting to his voice.
Zoisite grinned cheerfully. Now *this* was interesting. Nephrite and Kunzite going head to head. Leaning against the wall, his lilting voice asked again, taking a slow sweep up the auburn haired star king's form in a manner that suggested close examination, "Boyfriends?"
"Who else are all those males that have been appearing right along side the senshi, using powers and shouting stupid challenges?" Kunzite snapped to Zoisite. He raised an eyebrow at Nephrite and shook his head, fine silver hair catching on the open collar of his uniform. The wind was dying down, and those few people that was drain were slowly staggering to their feet. "Yes, and you can be forgiven for that. It wasn't MY idea to move in in YOUR area, but Beryl felt that my troops should do some coordinated attacks around the city to feel out the enemy's boundaries. I doubted that they were ready for anything bigger than a bathtub, BUT was I listened to? No, and for my questioning, I was to oversee this farce from this school's rooftop. So since I was here, I thought that I should get you two from out of your rocks and discuss our next moves so something like this won't happen again." As he talked sirens could be heard crossing the city, followed by muffled gunfire. Looking near the end of his patience, Kunzite took a deep breath closed his eyes, and muttered, "Taconite, you idiot. I said DO NOT attract the police!"
Placing himself once more at Nephrite's side, Zoisite fell quickly silent as the ice king snapped at him. One never pushed those of higher power unless they wanted to end up a little bloody smear on the pavement. He doubted that Nephrite would be much if any protection, but it was better than bearing the full brunt of Kunzite's outrage on his own. At the rattle of gunfire and Kunzite's muttering, Zoisite dropped his voice to a low whisper and murmured to Nephrite, "Looks like the great Ice King doesn't have things as well in hand as he wants us to think he does, ne?"
"I heard that," Kunzite said, then deflating, his anger fizzing out like a firecracker, he sighed. "It isn't me, it's the material that I'm forced to work with. You know what I mean."
Nephrite smiled softly. "We can't expect petty humans to do as good of work as we do." he said with a small grin. "Why not go show him how its done?"
