This is the LPHS's Wind Ensemble's Home Page. The W.E. is the top band
at LaPorte High School.
On May 3, 1997, the LPHS Wind Ensemble Traveled to Southport H.S. to compete in the 1997 ISSMA State Finals.
The Band placed sixteenth. In 1996, the band placed ninth.
The first concert of the year was on December 5, 1996. We played three pieces:
"Candide", by Leonard Bernstien; "Where Larks or Eagles Never Flew", by James Curnow; and "A Christmas Festival",
by LeRoy Anderson.
Our second concert was given on February 13, 1997 with the 2nd band (Symphonic Band), the Freshman Concert Band,
and the 1st ever performance by the LPHS Symphonic Orchestra. That night, we played two pieces, "Mars" (from the planets, for band)
Gustav Holst; and "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night", by Elliot Del Borgo.
Our third concert was at Lawerence Central High School in Indianapolis on March 13, 1997. We played our three contest pieces listed below.
Our fourth concert was at LPHS on April 10, 1997. Once again, we played our three songs listed below for contest.
Our fifth concert was at North Judson High School on April 19, 1997, at the ISSMA District Orginizational contest. The Wind Ensemble placed high enough to advance to the ISSMA State Concert Band Finals on May 3, in Indianapolis.
Our sixth concert was at Southport High School in Indianapolis on May 3, 1997. We played our contest pieces there for the final time.
Our seventh and final concert was on May 22, 1997. It was Senior recognition night. It was a pops concert.
This rounds out the concert season for the 1996-97 Wind Ensemble.
