I was born in the year of the dragon, 1976 to be exact, in
Vietnam. My childhood years were harsh and difficult, yet they were
the most enjoyable and memorable. I left Vietnam and came to America
in the Fall of 1987. I settle in the city of Charlotte and have lived
in Charlotte ever since.
Here is a brief history and a geography lesson. Charlotte is a
southern city and is the largest city in the state of North Carolina (North
Carolina was one of the first thirteen states). North Carolina is
famous for tobacco (bad stuff), Michael Jordan (Air Jordan), the Wright
brothers (first to flight), and last but not least, the 2nd largest financial
institutions in America (Bank of America, First Union...). North
Carolina lies along the east coast. On the east is the Atlantic Ocean,
and the west is the mountains.
The weather in North Carolina, especially in Charlotte, is hot and very
humid in the Summer. I mean very humid!! The hot temperature
doesn't kill but the humidity kills you. There is not a lot of snow
in the Winter (this is the south), the temperature can be varied from below
freezing point to above freezing point. During the Fall season, the
leaves turn color especially in the mountain. It is very beautiful.
And the Spring time is very nice with all the flowers trying to blossom
at the same time. The bad part about Spring is that a lot of people
get allgery from the pollens. It is very bad down here.
Well, I hope you have learned a little bit history and geography of
Charlotte, North Carolina. The lesson is free courtesy of me.
Now back to my biography, I am currently attending UNC-Charlotte,
and hopefully I will graduate in 2000 with a BS and BA in Biology and Computer
Science, respectively.
After I graduate, I plan to take a year or two off to work and to travel.
My favorite place is Paris,
France. Besides, I need a break from school. I am worn out.:-)
Then I will enter grad school. My choice right now is Duke
University. If anyone has relatives who work in the admission
office, please let me know. I am willing to put some money under
the table. My goal is to have a graduate degree and make enough money
to live a good life. Hopefully, one day I will have the "American
Dream", a wife, 2 kids, a dog, and a house with white picket fence.
Beside school, I love to listen to music especially listen to those
sad, broken hearted Vietnamese songs. Only music can change my mood
from sad to happy and vice-versa. Music allows me to relive the past,
to cherish the present, and to look forward the future. I can not
live without music; Tuan is music, music is Tuan.
The second thing that I love is Chinese movies ( Truye^.n Kie^'m Hie^.p
). Actually, I don't know if I love it or it is addicted. When I
was little, I used to stay all night and watched. But now, I don't
have a lot of time to watch it anymore so I read a lot. I think that
read is more wonderful and interesting than watch. You use a lot
of imagination. I love Kim Dung; he is the best writer. I am
currently collecting all of his stories as well as other authors.
I will continue my story later...I need to catch some zzz's.:-)
