History of Skaki I (the original)
It all started one day, way back when. . . there were a group of kids - Chip, Brad, and Brian included. They wanted to join in the generation trend of "band forming," so Chip got a guitar along with Brad and Brian got a trumpet. Since they all had similarities in Ska fondness, that was to be their genre. They practiced their respectable instruments for a while with ideas and songs flowing out of their heads. Brian had met another guy, who was already in a band, Rash, which was about to break up. Brian gave Michael a tape of a Ska band, Voodoo Glow Skulls, in order for him to get cultured. Prior to this, his favorite bands were Nirvana and other alternative junkies. This boy just happened to be rich and owned many-a-trumpet, which is an essential Ska component. They got together their freshman year of high school and practiced as a band, making many songs as experiments with that setup. One of Mike's pals, Tom "Moose," also was into music, however he was a violinist, but it turned out to be a usable position. The summer came along and if any progress was made, it was in the negative progression column. The band needed a powerful and skilled drummer and bassist. They looked everywhere and finally found someone, who actually had been in the underground world longer than they had. Mike talked to the two guys about the project and the outlook was bleak, due to how some of the members got along. After much an annoying pest, Josh along with Anthony crumbled and gave in, joining the band. This was just the acquisition needed to make the "Ska" sound work. Tom called up Josh and Anthony in the summer and told them to go over to Brian's house for a jam session in the garage. This was one of the first times the newcomers had played in front of a new crowd. It was sorta like an audition. The intensity built up and when Josh and Anthony pounded out a loud, hard-core tune, the band knew they had struck gold. Practices went on all summer long as small, unimportant members joined and were kicked out frequently. Ed bought a trombone & Skaki T-shirt, but never got the hang of the trombone. Jim(the fat, gay guy, with some damn crappy dances) was an awesome saxist, but he left due to location reasons and just being a total loser. Christian was put at guitar, but kicked out due to talent & musical differences. Brad, one of the founding fathers of Skaki, was forced to resign by the current members due to his lack of ability(he sucked). Chip was kicked out, then reacquired on trombone, which he actually was decent on. Many songs were made and practiced, but never actually bonded. The bond almost got a sweet gig, yet it was canceled. Then the band switched names and in the process, slowly drifted apart because Brian went off with Jim, Chip, a trumpet player named Billy, and who else knows. Since then, an excellent trumpet player from a different school asked to join. 3 good guitar tracks wait idle along with a new arrangement for Skaki, the Ska band from Des Plaines, IL new to the local scene.
