I don't know about anyone else, but I would honestly give up anything for the rest of my life to talk to Tchaicovsky and have him teach my his phenomenal sense of musical technique and orchestration. I've tried like hell for the longest time to mimic his riting style with no luck....my greastest musical aspiration is to someday perform his 4th Symphony with a professional orchestra. I can't get enough of this guy!!!!

I am trying deperately to track down the copyright owner of one of Tchaikowsky's less known songs, "Ah Weep No More". I can't even find it listed, and it does not have an opus number. Possibly there is an alternative translation with a different title. P etry is by F.J Whishaw (perhaps it even has a different set of words, as that does not sound like a russian poet's name) My husband is about to record it on a CD and we can't track down any details. It is in a very old book also. Any help? I think the w bsite is really informative and detailed - thanks!

This site has alot of great content about Peter Tchaikovsky. I used it for the oral report I have to give in English about him, and I didn't really have to go anywhere else. I have played a few of his pieces, such as the 1812 Overture, and Dance of The Flowers in the Nutcracker Ballet. I especially liked 1812 Overture, because it's funny that cannons are sometimes used in it! Thanks for putting up such an informational site, I'm very glad I found it! Lets hope that I get an A on the report, because this info seems very good too!!!

Hi again: Maybe the ending of my pevious message was not very clear. It should have been:Did you know that? Yes,did you know that when the secret archives of the late KGB were made accesible to research it was discovered that Tchaikovsky did not die of bad water drinking but of poison? He was given a glas of poison and "invited" to commit suicide because he had been caught in the act of homosexuality (then a capital offense) thus diying after several days of much pain. What a pity. On the other hand the original handwritten scores to his piano concertos were found. And not only number 1 and 2 but apparently the full score of number 3 and an unknown number 4. Tchaikovskys tempi indications are different from the way his concertos are being played today and a new recording respecting his writing has been made.If you want to know where I got this write me.Eduard

No less wonderful are those quotes you share with us, of which I like most that of Kierkegaard, the "Beauty is unbearable" one of Camus, and the "Life's splendor" one of Kafka. Tchaikovsky is a composer who obviousl suffers from too much play. But, provided one listens exclusively to those real masterly versions like, say, his No.5 by VPO under the baton of Gergiev (spelling right?), he never lapses into banality. And, if the listener is one endowed with a flair for pleasure in "simplest things" as you do, pleasure abounds in his apparent simple scores, from The Seasons to his ballet music. What an experience for me when Kirov Ballet came here last November to stage Swan Lake! Wishing you and your page the best!

Tchaikovsky has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. My family played The Nutcracker Suite when I was young around Christmas time. When I became older, as was able to select what kind of music I would purchase, I chose Tchaikovsky. His music s a huge part of my life because I love it so much. He is the greatest composer that ever lived. If I had the chance to tell him how much I LOVE his music, I would take it in a second. I wish he could know how much I am a fan of his. From his "Hamlet Ovet re" to his "Tempest Oveture", he truly proves himself as being a true talent. It is a shame that he died at such an earily age. He could have easily composed more beautiful music if he would have been granted more time on this earth. I can truly say that y life is more complete because I have heard his work. Even though he can't hear me or read my thoughts, I want him to know that he is the BEST.

Thank you for taking the trouble to put this site! Enjoyed browsing through it, especially the section on other's impressions of Tchaikovsky. That was very interesting. I do have to say that I can't agree with Daniel Mason's analaysis of his works. I think his lieder (when sung by some one like Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau or Hvorostovsky) are undiscovered gems - and so are some of his piano miniatures. It is also a pity that Daniel Mason had so little to say about his ballets - which are masterpieces of orchestration, rhythm and melody. I would also rank his first piano concerto as amongst the monumental creations of the concerto repertoire - and think his second concerto is somewhat unjustly neglected. Sometimes, acadamecians can go overboard in judging Tchaikovsky's music by excessively formal standards (that shouldn't be used in evaluating great music). For instance, I think his violin concerto is extremely poignant. And it's form works for the ideas chaikovsky wished to convey. (I think substance must always take precedence over form - and not the other way around!) Just some of my opinions, however....!....! I am glad to have visited this site. Thank you, again.

I am a descendant of Tchaikovsky (he was my great, great, great, great, uncle on my grandfather's side) Interesting note: When my grandfather came from Russia to America in the early 1900's, the authorities spelled th name the way it sounded due to the language barrier, changing it to "Shaikofsky."
