Reed Troubles?

Read on To Solve That Annoying Problem

Are you having trouble getting a reed to work for you? I was given this tip from a clarinet player very close to me (a.k.a. Jenn, my girlfriend, for those of you who happen to know her) so it will work on just about any single reed. Double reeds won't want to try this, though.

Procedure

Okay, now that you have that stuff, you are probably wondering what to do. Well, there are a few things. Here are the steps to follow:

First, you want to stretch the sandpaper taught over the glass, so that it is nice and flat against it.
Next, secure the sandpaper in that fashion.
Then, you take your problematic reed and rub the bottom of it(the flat side that goes against the mouthpiece) against the sandpaper. Do this for a while just to make sure that it works.
This should effectively seal off the leaks in the reed, which is usually the cause of a problem. If you don't like the results enough, try it again.

Well, this is the first tip in my series. If you have some sax or general reed instrument tips, mail them to me at either band_nerds@hotmail.com (include the words sax tips in the subject), or at adam43@hotmail.com, putting BNW in the subject.
