Welcome

Welcome to the Trombone Loft, a subpage of Band Nerd's World. I am Lucas, the host of the Trombone Loft. As the name implies, this page deals with different trombone related topics that many trombonists may have to deal with. NOTE: These are my personal views based on my experiences accumulated over the years. So if you have a difference of opinion, please let me know so we could discuss it.

What is a Trombone?

That is a question asked by many people who, for a lack of a better term, refer to the trombone as "the long slide thing." But that's what it is, isn't it? That's what makes the trombone, well, a trombone. It is defined, in the Winston Dictionary, as "a long brass wind-instrument with a U-shaped sliding tube by which variations in tone are produced." What it really means is that it is unique. No other wind instrument even remotely resembles it, and its closest relative is probably the euphonium/baritone in terms of length. The trombone has the reputation of being the most in-tune wind instrument, but also the only instrument that can't slur, in its truest sense.
