Poem for a dear friend
Waiting.
She sat, she waited. She held back the tears she wanted so much to shed."How could this be?" she thought to herself. Watching the people walk by, worrying, thinking, waiting. This was taking too long, something was wrong, she had to know. Lifting herself up from the chair she started walking, her husband grabbed her arm. "It'll be okay" she heard his trembling voice whisper, "..this is all we can do now.". It was. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, waiting... waiting. She could still hear it, the phone call she had gotten the night before, she could still feel it, the anger, the sorrow, everything. It was so unexpected, now all she could do was wait. Opening her eyes she saw someone walking towards her, a sad face. Out of the doctors mouth came the two brutal words that changed her life forever "she's gone"... she was gone. The driver was drunk, the driver crashed, the driver killed her, the only daughter this woman had every brought into this world was now, and forever, gone.
