Tonight I'm going to a New Year's Eve party at the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) hall here, and I'll be with lots of my friends. It cost $30 for all you can eat and drink, and they are going to have the same DJ that played music for us at my friend's 50th birthday party there:)

It's noon, and I still don't know what I'm gonna wear, LOL I want to wear my white cowboy boots, because I know I'm gonna be dancing all night, but I'm not sure if I should wear a dressy outfit or just a nice sweater and slacks. I want to be comfortable, because after the party part ends at about 2AM, lots of us go downstairs to the VFW bar, put the jukebox on loud, and have a sing-a-long until about 4AM:) No need to drink too much to have fun, either, because my friends know how to have a good time. Last year when I went there, I had such a good time, and I danced my butt off (okay, maybe not literally, since my butt is still very much there:)

The DJ is really good, too - he plays all kinds of music - swing music, country music, 50's music, the Macarena and the Electric Slide. I've been looking forward to this for weeks, and now I'm playing lots of music while I'm on the computer, to really get myself in the mood:)

My thoughts on 1998:

- I made several new friends in real life, as a result of my involvement in my local VFW post. Now I no longer feel like an outsider there, but feel like I belong.

- I traveled to the opposite coast, and got to see the wonders of Yosemite and Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Parks.

- I became an aunt for the first time, and had the opportunity to be a part of the miracle of a wonderful new life:)

- I finally moved out of a dump of an apartment, and into a new one that promises to be very happy and full of good times with friends and family.

- We won't discuss my love life in 1998 - it s*cked:)

My goals for 1999:

- Take a country line dancing class
- Get my learner's permit and driver's license
- Take a self-defense course
- Put more energy into my writing, and try to submit at least 1 article a month for publication anywhere
- Buy some Big Band Swing sheet music, get out my alto flute, and learn to play it (the swing music, not the flute:)
- Attempt to quit smoking and lose a bit of weight, somewhere in the course of the year

Well, I did at least one thing that I've been putting off since I moved here - I went to the library to attempt some research on the history of this house. I came up with zilch, but at least I went and did it. It's amazing to me that a library that has been in this town for gosh knows how many years has almost no historical information about the town. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until Monday when our town's historical institute re-opens after their holiday break to find out anything further. I really do want to find out more about this house and the people who built it and/or lived here, which is a first for me!

I never should've gone outside today. I should've just stayed home in my pajamas. Not only was it pouring rain outside, but I walked over to the VFW for nothing. It was closed when I got there. At first, I thought maybe I was in the Twilight Zone or something, but I later found out that there was some flooding overnight. They kept the place closed because there was still a mess to clean up. So, I had a nice, wet 8 block walk for nothing. Grrrr!

Will our heroine manage to keep any of her resolutions for the New Year???

Will she learn that her house is haunted???
