Crescendo is presenting..."Cat's In The Cradle" for your pleasure.
I Am Just Like You
My feet are burning
My dogs are barking
My stomach's growling
And I just ate.
I eat too much and am overweight
But look at me or my heart will break.
My clothes need washing
My cats need feeding
You see, I Am just like you.
Please don't discriminate.
I thought isolation
Went out with Civil Rights' creation.
Why can't this nation
Accept us and not differentiate?
I am no different from you.
I like and love and hate.
What makes us different is simply
That we must await your ordered fate.
I can not be you.
I must be me.
Although I am just like you,
You are not like me.
Why can you decide
What for me must be inside?
I just do not want
What you call "integrate".
We all take turns and
help each other out.
We are a team without doubt.
When one is hurt others also cry.
This is more than I was given as a child.
We are a total, unique, family.
Would you have your mom or dad
Or sister, aunt or brother,
Disappear from your life forever?
We, too, love one another
For us to integrate
True, we would accept your planned fate,
But what of us inside?
Which do you say must die?
Not me!
Please let me live.
I too have a lot to give.
I too love and like and hate.
Just like you, our souls are true.
And for us, we wish to live anew!
