A simple search Kwanzaa found 1474 references.
A refined search was useful as I could eliminate all the general holiday and Christmas references. The Advanced Search was not as effective as I hoped, because this search is best limited to certain words rather than to domains etc. The best search was |
Overall I was a bit less happy with these ones, which surprised me as I use Altavista a lot. Many had come up before, a good sign, and it was easy to get basic information from new sites like Festivals.com But many of the sites were quite old and the really information rich sites did not appear. One very good related but untitled site was an essay by Dr Maulana Karenga the founder of Kwanzaa The Advanced Search was not as good as the Refined Search in this example, but neither were terrific. Both found many school and children's library sites like Boulder Public Library. |
The Advanced Search Help is great. It demonstrates the flexibility of the search engine which allows every type of limiting necessary. I fear that is hidden away so it is only read and understood by librarians. In Advanced Search, being able to choose to search on parts of the url, on the links in the pages and other sophisticated and handy features. A definite plus. Hotbot and Altavista allow you to open a separate window for your results which is a good browsing feature. |
The refine feature did not work as well in advanced searching, so I could really only do one or the other. Also the descriptions are not as much in depth as Hotbot and Excite. I would like to be able to search by level, but this is a dream just yet. In this very broad topic, I would soon find the powerful sites, just by following links, but in summary, no search engine is the bees knees (perfect) as I discovered, yet again. |
