Let's start out with getting to know a little about Brooke. She grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and attended the University of North Carolina where she majored in Pyschology and was a member of Chi Omega Soroity. Brooke was a model for Marilyn's Modeling Agency in Greensboro and worked on such accounts like Chachita Bananas. Right now she is a licensed Insurance Agent.
Would you believe she was never a NASCAR fan? A friend of hers suggested that she interview to be a Miss Winston.
For you newer NASCAR fans a Miss Winston's job is to appear at Winston Cup events, congradulate the winners in Victory Lane and they usually promote Winston Cup activities.
The first race she had ever seen was in 1992 for the Twin 125's qualifying - Jeff Gordon had won.
As a unwritten rule, drivers are not allowed to have romantic relationships with a Miss Winston. This didn't matter to Jeff for he had called Brooke several times for a date. There were no results, she never called him back.
On Valentine's Day 1992, before the Charlotte race Brooke Sealy and Jeff Gordon had finally met. She gave him some heart shaped candies for good luck and later on gave him the trophy.
Using their young age as a total excuse, they would wink at one another and talk afterwards. They had met up several other times such as a charity event and a autograph signing.
By this time, they wanted to see more of each other. They started to date reguarily in secret. They would meet up at odd times, duck in and out of side doors and go to places NASCR crowds usually didn't.
They had agreed if they were discovered - the relationship would be over until Brooke's year was over. We know how that turned out!!!
When Jeff was 14, he had grown a pencil thin mustache that he enhanced with a eye brow pencil. To that day he had it. Several months into their courtship, Brooke asked if he would ever shave it off....to her surprise that same night, after a few minutes Jeff came back from the bathroom with his mustache shaven off.
As they were dating, Brooke had to duck out back doors or kitchens when another driver came in.
As well as on race weekends, she had to wait for other flights when a crew or driver showed up.
One story to tell was as they were waiting to be seated, Kyle Petty came in - spotted Jeff and almost found out the idenity of his date, but Jeff distracted him.
Another time was when another driver challenged Jeff because he was always alone and asked if he was gay. This buzzed around all season because no one understood why he always showed up to functions alone. Let alone why Brooke Sealy showed up alone. No one ever linked the 2 big stories together.
At the end of the 93 season they were quite happy because now they wouldn't have to sneak around. They officially spoke out about their romance after the NASCAR Awards Banquet where Jeff won Rookie of the Year and Brooke's year was up.
The following February in Daytona, before the Busch Clash - the "big question" was asked. No one really knows how Gordon did it. There are plenty of ideas floating around. But the result was the same, she accepted right away. Following Jeff would win the Busch Clash and won the 1st Winston Cup race at Charlotte.
They were married on November 26, 1994. Only family and friends attended. They had a 7 ft. wedding cake, and their picture on Carolina bride. Fans were able to mark the occassion with a donation to Jeff's favorite charity, The Leukemia Society of America. They bought a house alongside Lake Norman on the outside of Charlotte.
It's said that Brooke has changed Jeff for the better. His driving improved, became more patient.
When they aren't at the track, they are at their 4 bedroom mansion with their toys. Some are a 45 ft motorhome, a lear jet, 29 ft speedboat and a red Jaquar XX-8.
When they are away from the track they spend a lot of time together playing basketball at home, doing water sports and playing some golf. They also go to the movies a lot. Since Jeff suffers from allergies - Brooke kids him about thats his way to get out of mowing the lawn.
Both Jeff and Brooke are devoted Christians. They go to church regularily and Brooke can be seen praying for her husband before the race. She gave him a scripture that would go in the car with him;
"3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding".
Jeff is not only involved with Promise Keepers, he is active with charities such as Leukemia Society, Kids and the Hood, and Make a Wish Foundation.
Coming to a hault, as everyone knows this year Brooke filed for divorce on Marital misconduct. She was looking to have almost everything.
The story-book fairy tale has come to an end. We don't know what happened, but I think it would be very respectful to not ask questions. Most of their life was in the public eye - that should only ever go so far.
Plenty say this has affected Jeff's driving which if you look it hasn't. He is a little distracted but not enough to stop him from searching out his 5th Championship.
There are rumors going around that he's gay or went to another woman. But I will say this once. I believe all the rumors were started by anti-gordon fans and if you are a "TRUE" Jeff Gordon fan you wil stand behind him through all and never give up.
We may never know what exactly went on to cause their seperation, and it was a shock to everyone to hear about it. We don't really know if they are still friends or work together or what is going on but they do deserve their privacy.
