Baldy Town, which was a small mining community from 1868 to 1940, is the site of the current Baldy Camp. The mining community was central to many mines in the area ranging from small mines to the large Aztec mine. The Aztec mine had seven different levels and tours are given on level two on the French Henry side of Aztec Ridge. Destroyed by a fire in 1923, the rubble from the Aztec Mill and the foundations of some of the buildings are all that remains of Baldy Town which once flourished with more than 20 structures. The old Baldy Town School was renovated in 1995 and is now the site of the commissary. Although the hotel no longer remains, the foundation can still be seen just north of the Baldy Town Museum. The hike to the top of Baldy Mountain (12,441 ft) is difficult, but apporaching from this camp is easier than from Copper Park.
