The Gap Sea Cliffs Warning

The Gap (along with North Head) is probably one of the most "authentic" Sydney sea cliffs crags. The rock is generally crumbly and sandy, many of the bolts are rusty, and the climbs are long, hard and exposed (ie. scary!).

Before I go into too much detail, however, I must admit that I still haven't actually completed a climb here yet. During an attempt on "Cruise or Bruise" (briefly described below), my climbing partner and I were rudely interrupted by two members of the NSW Police Rescue Squad, who (in a feeble attempt to impress the hordes of tourists wandering past), attempted to confiscate all of our gear and arrest us for trespassing. After much "discussion", we were let off with a warning and a "don't come back here again". The message: if you intend to climb here, either do it in the middle of the night, or get a good lawyer!

If you are "politely asked" to return to the top of the cliff, there's a rusty ladder in the middle of the bay that leads to a short section of chossy, loose rock that can be soloed up (with caution!).

The guide for the area is the "Sydney and the Sea Cliffs" guide book.

Looks great, but I never got to find out! Now sports two pretty good bolts just below the start of the corner. The corner itself is quite deep, so although the climb overhangs quite a bit, most of the climbing looks like it would be stemming up vertical walls.
