Ska's Page

I decided to look for a new chocolate lab pup during the summer of 1996. After about two months of passively searching for a reputable breeder, I found Godiva Labradors. I was told that a breeding was planned but will not take place for a month or so. You can guess the result - SKA was born on December 02, 1996.

A happy and tired Wanna with her two day old pups

I visited the pups several times and I picked her up on Febuary 03, 1997. I was preparing for the MSAT (I actually took it on February 02) and just started the Multiple Subject Credential Program at CSUF, so I was glad I had something to look forward to...my brand new choc pup!

Ska is now 4 1/2 years old. She has become a really great dog (aren't all labs!?!). I was worried about how Buck, my 6 year old lab, would react to the new pup. As expected, he did his best to ignore her. He did a good job. I kept the two seperated and only allowed them to be together if they were directly supervised. Obviously I did this to prevent any fighting, but I also did not want Ska to bond with Buck instead of me. Happily Buck accepted Ska, and they were fine together. Another unexpected surprise was that Buck actually played with Ska, and he was very gentle.

I had Ska's hips x-rayed when she was spayed. My vet noticed that her right socket looked differently from her left. After consulting two orthopedic surgeons, I decided on the "puppy procedure" better known as a triple pelvic osteotomy. Luckily everything went as planned and she only needed the procedure on one side.

Ska has started agility training. In addition, I hope she will be ready for AAA/AAT work by next year.
