Hey people! Let's have some respect here!
The Internet is a lovely place, you've got the whole world in your hands! There are so much information on it that it would take a person at least two life times to finish reading them all, but with it expending so rapidly I don't really think anyone will, even if they do have the time. This wealth of information while it has it's goods, also brought out some bad. I am not talking about porn or bomb making, but copying and stealing.
The copy right dilemma has been big both on and off the net. We got China copying software's on CD's, and selling them at 5 bucks a piece! I know 'cause I have a stack right in front of me. Then we've got the on line dilemma of people taking other's work, putting them on their own page. Now I have to say I never really cared about it much, I thought if you put it no the net, then it's free for all. No so! It's this type of attitude that leads to the cued lawyer warnings we get every time we go to a page that's providing you with pictures and graphics, and it the world of mountain biking home pages, copy right violation is only a cued reality.
It is sad that I find pictures I've seen in E-zines such as www.plushmag.com, www.fatirephoto.com, and others pages on peoples personal pages. (I chose them because I found that they are the most violated, even though there are more.) It is common practice for many, I did it when I started the Hyperactive man's Home page (now the Hyper Zone) I took stuff from everywhere, yes even from fat tire photo (sorry guys.) then I edit it to cover the copy rights the corner, then put it up as my own. Now I have stopped, due to a few things. First being a photographer myself, I know I don't want people taking my work and using them as their own. Secondly I've decided to invest into a few graphic software and a digital camera, so I can really personalize my page make it really unique.
Now lets say you want your page to be clean from this copy right legal stuff, but you are a little low or lack the materials to finish up your page, so what can you do. Well this may take a little more time but it's well worth it, ask the webmaster of that page for permission to use their materials, be specific on what you want, and ask nicely. Most people won't refuse your request, just remember to give that page the credit they deserve, and a link to their page. I will be glad to offer you some materials if you just ask! (I may even provide you with some custom graphics if there is the need and that I have the time to make it.) The web master of Extreme Mountain Biking, did just that, he asked and I offered him a few of my article (actually I told him he can take what ever.) I don't really know about the big commercial pages though.
Well now you know let's have some respect on the net, respect others time and effort, don't just take other's work.
So here I declare that all graphic, pictures, articles and coding are my own work, and any materials taken from other pages are only done so with permission of that page's web master and that full credit for their work will be given.
Now I have taken this step, I expect you to do the same, please don't take my stuff!
