Time Zone

Part of the reason this page has not been updated for such a long time is that I have been spending the year studying in the US, giving me the perfect environment to bike my ass off. I have trashed more parts in this school year, than I have in the past 4 years of biking! Now that I have tortured my bike to the point of retirement, I may as well give you the load down on some of the parts that I have used (and trashed).

Note: The comments below are my own opinion based on my riding style, they are here to give you an idea of how things last. So if I say something bad about a product, it is by no means a bad product. Don't be discurraged about buying the stuff, because I could be wrong!

Rock Shox Judy

Introduction: Rock Shox Judy the fork that changed Mountain Bike suspension for good, it was one sweet fork, yes I said WAS! The fork's construction is great, but the internals are kind of sketchy. Right now I own a 94 Judy SL (one of the first made) which is now retired and is replaced with a 98 RST MOZO XL (check it out at hype zone), and a OEM 97 Judy C which came with my GT STS2 (I'll have something about it later on the page.) They are both great at first, but little things start failing and then you are stuck!

Analysis: The Judy SL was in service from December 94 till June 97, and I have to say Im a little disapointed. One of the first problem I had was the cartidage (like you haven't heard that before!) I have blown 4 of those low tech' babies between May 95 and September 96. Three of those are plastic, and one is the early Rock Shox aluminum ones. It wasn't really annoying, since it just feels like an under-springed 21R, no big deal right? Well it would be if I didn't clean out by savings or it! Since September 96 I have switched to a Rissi 3in' kit (See Hype zone), with the Speed spring (RED)I have installed ealier in the year the fork works great and it's been great to me until it's retirement. The reason to the SL's retirement is first due to old age, broken off too many parts leading to high medical costs.

Time line of the Judy SL

Dec 94: Purchased
Dec 94 till Feb 95: My bike was the talk of the town because of the SL.
May 95: First cartidage blown. Cause: boken seal.
July 95: Speed spring installed. Reason: MCU getting to soft(Old age), and Magazine hype induced gotta have attidite.
Oct 95: Second Cart' blown. Cause: Cracked body.
Dec 95:Third Cart' changed. Cause: Slow leak.
Sept 96:Forth Cart' Changed. Cause: cracked seal.
