Stacey by the rocks
Our annual trip to Vancouver Island blew by too quickly. We enjoyed sun, moderate breezes and a little adrenalin-pumping rough water. Diana Island in Barkeley Sound served as base camp again. Darleen, the Ohiat Guardian told us a little about her life on the Island and treated us to some of her canned smoked salmon. The view of the Sound and mountains framed by the little bay with its rocky islets is outstanding. We paddled to many islands in the Deer Group and explored lots of coves, caves and arches. On our return we spent an evening on the waterfront in Nanaimo and had a morning paddle around Newcastle Island in strong Northwesterlies before heading home.
