ATTENTION: If you have built an IRC from this site prior to 03-10-01, click Here to fix the frames on your IRC.
So, you've decided to build yourself an IRC huh? Well, you have come to the right place..
You will need to learn, or already know how to do a few things first before you can build an IRC at D & C:
Own A WebTV Unit
Learn To Cut And Paste
A Little Bit Of HTML Knowledge
Get A Free Home Page At Geocities
Ability To Create A Sign And Transload
Correctly Edit Your Files Where We Specify
Patience When Your IRC Doesn't Work At First
Pretty simple eh? Well in no time, and with practice, you will not only learn how to build your own IRC, but also how to modify it, add pop-ups, and change things to your liking.
Now let's begin...
Step 1: Copy The Codes
If you do not know how to Cut & Paste, please click Here then return back to this page after you have learned how.
Put your Cursor in the form below and Copy the whole text area by holding down your CMD button and hitting the letter 'A' then the letter 'C'. Continue down once you have done this:
Step 2: Learn Some HTML
If you already know a little bit of HTML you can go on to the next Step. If you feel you need to learn a little bit of HTML, we recommend you spend an hour or so learning it at Draac`s HTML Course. Once you feel you have learned the basics of HTML, proceed to the next Step...
Step 3: Get a Web Page
We recommend you store your IRC and get a Free Web Page at Geocities. You are welcome to store your IRC anywhere you want though. Places like Tripod or Angelfire are ok, but in our opinion, Geocities is much better and much easier to use. Once you get a web page at Geocities, or if you already have one, you need to go to the Advanced Editor there. Once there, make a NEW file and name it dandcirc.html. Put your cursor in the big box and erase everything in that file text area until it is blank. Then paste in your IRC codes by holding the CMD button and hitting the V key. Next, SAVE your file by hitting the Save Button in your Editor. When you have done all this correctly, proceed to the next Step...
Step 4: Create A Sign For Your IRC And Transload It
Now it's time to make your IRC Sign. We recommend using Gifworks to create your sign, but you may make your sign using any graphics generator you want. After you have made your sign you can Transload it to your Geocities account directly from Gifworks or by using the Star Blvd Transloader.
Important: When you are about to transload your IRC sign, you NEED to RENAME it to ircsign.gif.
D & C will make an IRC sign for you if you have tried to make one and failed. Or, we will make one for you if Transloading is too complicated for you. You will however have to e-mail us and provide us with your Geocities log-in name and password for us to do this. You can change your password after we have made your sign. D & C will only make and transload up to 10 signs a month for the public. Once your sign has been made (either by us or by yourselves), proceed to the next Step...
Step 5: Editing Your IRC File
You can now go back to your Advanced Editor at Geocities and Edit your IRC File. Just click a red check mark next to your file that you already named 'dandcirc.html' then hit the EDIT button. When the codes for your IRC show up below, you may Edit the areas that we have indicated that have CAPITAL LETTERS surrounded by these stars *****. Erase our words we have capitalized and the * stars, and enter your own things such as the Title of the IRC, your Chat Name, etc. Please be very careful to delete ONLY the Capitalized words surrounded by stars AND the stars themselves.
Important: Do not erase the codes in your IRC with stars that say:
******ATTENTION****** or ******THANK YOU******
Important: Always make a Back-Up copy of your IRC in your Editor before you change things in the codes or add things. Making a copy of your IRC file is very important everytime you work on your IRC. Also, never hit your 'Back' button while editing your IRC and never use the 'Preview' button in your Editor. These things can cause line breaks and prevent your IRC from working.
Good luck on building your IRC. Please Submit your IRC to us after you have made it to your liking.
(Note: This IRC Builder works only for WebTV-users)
