Family Background

After everyone has decided on their character concepts, the SG will decide who your parents are. The SG will also give you some idea of what your childhood was like. Develop this for yourself. How do you relate to your parents? What do you think they think of you? What do you most like about your parents? Most hate?

Describing your character's relationship with their parents may be difficult at first. That's fine. Just wait until you've met them a few times, and then add more details. Blame your parents for your problems.

You'll also discover your siblings. Work together with the relevant players to decide how you feel about each other.

Are you competitive, friendly, do you hate each other, who bullies whom, who is the parental favourite, and so forth. Describe some events together that help define your relationships.

Your family background will determine how much you know of the PatternFall War. What Corwin said to Merlin isn't necessarily common knowledge. Most characters will not know specifics such as how Corwin escaped from the dungeons, the Primal Pattern, the relationship between it and the Black Road, how to create a new Pattern. On the other hand, characters may have been told information that Corwin didn't have.

Start role playing your characters together. You don't need the SG to do this. Just make interesting things happen. Go on adventures together, and invite the SG's opinion if you think it will be relevant.

Introduce your character's little habits, and see how your brothers and sisters respond to them.
