Llewellyn

Llewellyn Next was Llewellyn, whose hair matched her jade-coloured eyes, dressed in shimmering grey and green with a lavender belt, and looking moist and sad. For some reason, I knew she was not like the rest of us. But she, too, was my sister.

Nine Princes In Amber

Llewellyn, as she prefers to be called, was ignored by most Amberites during PatternFall.

And that seems to be the way she wanted it.

But Llewellyn is now prominent in the affairs of Amber. She sits at Random's right hand, advising him on many aspects of politics. For those who joined the battle against Chaos at the end of PatternFall, this is a big change. Hers was not that familiar a presence in Amber, before the War.

But somehow Llewellyn is still an unknown quantity. Despite her obvious skill at diplomatic geniality, she doesn't have the same aura of friendliness as, say, Flora, or Random himself. You are always aware with Llewellyn that the pleasant greeting is a screen hiding the real person.

Llewellyn still spends some time in Rebma. There, in the watery city, Llewellyn is sister to the queen, Moire, and also wields considerable power. Enough to offer sanctuary if she wishes. Or punishment.

And so, in Amber, you'll find her reluctant to participate in the games. She'll neither criticise, nor praise. Although she may suggest a course of action. And her suggestions nowadays are worth noting.

Llewellyn is the daughter of Moins, a Rebman aristocrat. It is interesting that although Oberon and Moins were never married, somehow things were arranged so that Oberon formally recognised Llewellyn as his daughter. Even Eric, for example, born during an ambiguous period of bigamy, was never formally recognised.
