We have
organized various programs along with the department during the
past two years. Some of our major programs are listed below. |
- One day state
level conference
“INFO 2001” on 2nd October 2001
at Bishop Heber College. LIS professionals from different
Libraries and LIS students from different Universities from
all over the state
participated in this conference. A lot of LIS students
presented papers on various topics. Apart from this programs
like quiz, Admad, related to the
subject were organized. This is the first such conference
organized in the state.

- A Two day National
Conference on “RECENT TRENDS IN LIBRARY INFORMATION
SCIENCE AND TECHOLOGY – LIST 2002” was organized on
the 27th and 28th January 2002 at
Bishop Heber College,Trichy. Nearly 200 LIS professionals
from all over the country participated in the Conference.
Dr. Muthukumaran, Secretary State council for Higher
Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu was the Chief Guest for the
Conference. Prof. D. Swamiraj, was the guest of Honour,
Prof.D.A.Jeyakar Chellaraj, then principal in-charge
presided over the function,Dr.T.A.V.Murthy–Director
INFLIBNET presented the keynote address. Some of the noted
professionals who chaired the different sessions of the
conference were Dr.R. Vengan- Librarian, Madras University,
Dr. H.R. Chopra – Head, Dept. of LIS Punjab University,
Dr. Manorama Srinath, Prof. Dept. of LIS University of
Madras, Dr. M.K. Bhandi, Librarian Manglore University, Mr.
Natrajan, Scientist INSDOC – Madras, Mr. Y. Venkatesh, C.P.
Ramasesh of Mysore University. The highlight of the
conference was the live demonstration of various Library
software packages, Paper presentation and a Panel
discussion. Mrs. Ally Sornam, Mr.A.Manoharan, Mrs.V.Geetha
and Mr.Jesudas Manalan coordinated different committees.
Mrs.B.S. Swaroop Rani was the Organising Secretary for the
Conference. The Valedictory function was chaired by
Prof.D.Joseph Anbarasu, Syndicate Member of Bharthidasan
University.

- A Two day workshop for “Preparation
for UGC- NET/ SLET Examination” was organized on
the 10th and 11th of August 2002 at
C.S.I Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science,
Coimbatore. Thirty participants form different Colleges in
and around Coimbatore district participated in this
workshop. Mrs. B.S.Swaroop Rani, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of
LIS Bishop Heber College inaugurated the workshop and was
also the principal resource person. The other resource
persons include Mr. S.Swaminathan, Librarian, Sri
Ramakrishna Mission Vidhayalaya College of Education, Mr.
S.C.Kumaresan, Librarian, Coimbatore Institute of
Technology, Mr. Magudeeswaran, Librarian, C.N.C Erode, Ms.
Mahalakshmi, Avinashilingam Engineering College, Mr.
Thanikachallam, Awake Coaching Centre, Mr. Manikandan,
Librarian D.J. Academy for Managerial Excellence.
Mr.S.Saravanan, Librarian & Mr.R. Sivakumar, Assistant
Librarian from V.L.B Janakiammal College of Arts and Science
conducted a group discussion. Mr. Manikandan was the
Organizing Secretary and Mr. Stephen Thangaraj, Librarian of
C.S.I Bishop Appasamy was the co-Ordinator
of the program

Endowments
and Scholarship |
A
couple of endowments were created in the name of two of our late
Alumni Mr. Saravanan and Mr. Arokiasamy to provide financial
assistance to two deserving students. “Saravanan memorial
Educational Scholarship”, and the “Arokiasamy
Examination Scholarship”, a selection committee comprising
the Alumni and one staff member of the department scrutinizes
applications from the students and selects the deserving
candidates. The scholarship will be awarded every year on the
October 2. The Educational Scholarship for the year 2001-2002
was given to Mr.A.Victor 2001-02 batch.
Contributions
to these endowments are welcomed from Alumni and individuals.
Some of our alumni contributors are Mrs.Pappaparvathi, Mr. Sam
Andrews, Mr. Rajendran, Mr. Rajagopal, Mr. Tamizhchelvan, Mr.
Manikandan, Mr.T.Magudeeswaran, V. Sakthi Rekha.
