ACADIA MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION Meeting
Wednesday, August

TRYOUTS, PLAYER EVALUATION, TEAM SELECTION
DOCUMENTATION
The Play Evaluation, Team Selection documentation was presented
in draft by Dave Upton and reviewed in detail. Some constructive suggestions
were made. Dave Upton agreed to work on a redraft which would be e-mailed to
executive members. Final approval of the Tryouts Player Evaluation, Team
Selection documentation is scheduled to occur at the next Executive meeting.
Darren Burns is planning the drill for the tryouts and will be instructing the
on ice facilitators.
INITIAL MEETING WITH COACHES
Dave Duncan reported that the initial meeting with coaches was
held and they received their information package. The initial meeting went
well. Fair play, team selection and the coaches' obligation to assist with the
amalgamation process was discussed. Coaches were advised that there were to be
no trips outside of the Atlantic Provinces for this initial year because of the
need for fund raising on the association level. They have also been instructed
not to recruit players except at the AAA level for tryouts. Each coach must
provide a report to the Executive on a monthly basis re fund raising and, as
well, an operating plan for the team. Discussions occurred in relation to the
completion of player evaluation and coach evaluation forms. Descriptions will
be provided in relation to the responsibilities of the coach, the assistant
coach and the team manager.
BLUE WHITE GAME IN CANNING
Dave Upton presented an initial proposed action plan attached as
Schedule "A". Prior to the executive meeting, Dave Upton, Lynn and Sherry
Benjamin met to start the initial planning process. The committee is looking
for additional volunteers. Jim Scott at Cleve's will be approached for door
prizes. Advertising for the program will be sold. An opening ceremony will be
organized.
NOVICE QUICK START PROGRAM
The Executive agreed to distribute the approved information
sheet to the following schools:
Dave Duncan - Gaspereau, Port Williams,
Wolfville
Mike Graves - Cambridge and Coldbrook
Lynn Connors - KCA and
Aldershot
John Currie - LE Shaw
Dave Upton - Glooscap
Larry
Rodrigues - New Minas
The Executive unanimously agreed to approve the information
sheet and request for funding letter prepared by Mike Graves attached as
Schedule "B". (below Schedule A-same document)
PRELIMINARY ICE SCHEDULES FOR 2004-2005
The ice schedule attached as Schedule "C" was discussed at
length but not completely finalized. It was agreed that the female programs,
because of the inclusion of West Hants players, should be rotated between
Acadia, Kentville and East Kings. It was further agreed, for the initial
season, that ice time will be rotated between Canning and Kentville arenas;
where applicable, Acadia, Canning and Kentville arenas. It was also agreed that
the Kentville and Canning Associations would pay one time keeper to deal with
both rinks for the three associations. It was also agreed that the same game
sheet would be used for the three associations. It was also agreed that in
relation to the available Saturday afternoon times, that this time would be
used for house league teams for development purposes involving the Acadia
Axemen players.
FUNDRAISING FOR ACADIA MHA - JERSEYS
The cost for jerseys, after registration fees are paid, as a
result of negotiations with Cleve's, is anticipated as being in the range of
$9,000.00 to $10,000.00. It is anticipated that this sum would be covered by
try out camp fees, blue and white game revenue, 50/50 tickets and other fund
raising. The jerseys are on a 60 day payment plan. The jersey sizes and numbers
were discussed in principle as set out in Schedule "D". Members will be from
1-17 with the usual goalie numbers.
ACADIA MHA PRESS CONFERENCE
This is scheduled for Monday, August 30th, 2004 in the evening
and will be coordinated by Acadia University Press Officer. The guest list was
discussed and not finalized.
BANTAM AAA AND MIDGET AAA MINOR
A Prospect camp is scheduled for the week of August 30th, 2004
run by Acadia. There are approximately 22 Bantam players and a 12 Midget
players registered. The Prospect Camp is on the Kentville and East Kings
Association Web Site. In relation to the Bantam AAA, a meeting with Terry Beck
and Dave Keith has been scheduled. It is anticipated that Terry Beck, on behalf
of Nova Scotia Hockey, will intervene in relation to our admission to the
league.
